Joe Biden to vote AGAINST Roberts
Thought that might surprise some folks here.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2005/09/21/biden-to-vote-against-rob_n_7684.html

Senator Joseph Biden (D-Del.) will vote against the confirmation of John G. Roberts as Chief Justice of the United States, a source who has spoken to the senator told The Huffington Post.

Last Wednesday, Biden told Roberts, "We're rolling the dice with you, judge because you won't share your views with us. You've told me nothing in this Kabuki dance. The public has a right to know what you think."

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid announced he would vote against Robert’s confirmation yesterday.

2. Good news.
Who else except him, Reid, Kennedy, Kerry, and Boxer?

I wasn't sure which way he would go.

Any word on Schumer yet? His number has been busy.

4. I wonder if Leahy is voting for Roberts to give wayward Rs
Edited on Wed Sep-21-05 04:20 PM by stopbush
cover to vote against him. After all, there are many on the right who aren't happy with Roberts. Leahy voting for confirmation removes the "along partisan lines" aspect from the voting...which would allow anti-Roberts Rs to vote against him without showing weakness in party loyalty. After all, it only looks bad for party loyalty if the Dems all hang together and a few Rs defect. If one or two Ds defect, other Rs can defect and oppose Roberts.

Alright, I realize I'm crazy.

17. I wondered about that too, though. there's a lot of dissent
simmering among the non-neocons in Congress right now. This vote may be a gentle way of registering some impactful disagreement with the WH.

20. No Republican will vote against him
It will be a straight party vote with the GOP.

7. Make sure you all let your Senators know how you want them to
vote, even if you assume they already decided. Make ya feel good.

8. SERIOUS QUESTION: Who's voting "no"?
My mom said that some pundit or another said that any Democrat who has designs on the 2008 nomination has to vote against Roberts. Is this essentially true?

Here's my list of would-be nominees and how they've pledged to vote:

Kerry-NO
Biden-NO
Bayh-??
Clinton-??
Feingold-??
Edwards-sent an email saying NO

Anyone know anything about my question markers? Feingold is iffy based on his usual theory of giving the President what he wants. Bayh is a DLC DINO so that's iffy too. How about Clinton?

I'm glad that Biden says no since anyone who watched those hearings knows that any senator who sat there and complained about not getting answers, such as Leahy, should be voting that way.

I don't really get Edwards' email, as much as I like him. He voted for Roberts for the DC Court of Appeals. The email doesn't really explain his change of heart and that's something I'd like to hear explained. Is it just proving the pundit right that those who want to be POTUS have to vote no?

I'd appreciate any thoughts, additions, or corrections.

10. Edwards isn't a Senator any longer
So he doesn't get a vote this time. So while his statements against Roberts are welcome, they don't count on the floor.

their standing on Roberts.

It's a good day to be a Joe.

Joementum for his words re: ANWR.

And Biden, who is my absolute bottom of the barrel last choice in 2008, also a cookie.
