Santorum's words come back to slap him in the face

http://www.pnionline.com/dnblog/attytood/archives/002371.html

Look what's in Rick Santorum's backyard: Pedophile priests!

-snip-

You probably remember the theory that Pennsylvania's dog-loving GOP senator floated in 2002 -- which re-surfaced this spring -- about why Boston was at that time the hotbed of priest pedophilia:

It is startling that those in the media and academia appear most disturbed by this aberrant behavior, since they have zealously promoted moral relativism by sanctioning "private" moral matters such as alternative lifestyles. Priests, like all of us, are affected by culture. When the culture is sick, every element in it becomes infected. While it is no excuse for this scandal, it is no surprise that Boston, a seat of academic, political and cultural liberalism in America, lies at the center of the storm.

-snip-

It seems that clergy sexual abuse of children -- not to mention a cover-up that included not one but two cardinals -- was arguably worse in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia than it ever was in Boston.

The grand jury, which investigated the archdiocese for more than three years, concluded that at least 63 priests - and probably many more - sexually abused hundreds of minors over the past several decades.
-snip-
-------------------------------

some of the abuses the priests did are listed and are disgusting.

the article ends with:

On the other hand, maybe the culture in Pennsylvania is "sick." After all, we've elected Santorum to the Senate twice now.

4. He makes me ashamed to be a Pennsylvanian.
I'll never understand how he's been elected not once but twice. If he gets elected again next year, I really don't know how I can even begin to defend my fellow Pennsylvanians. (However, Diebold may also have some say as to whether he wins, so, even if Pennsylvanians have finally seen the light in reference to him, we may never know it.)

7. Hey, I know how you feel
I'm from North Carolina and spend years defending my state to outsiders as to why we continued to reelect Jesse Helms.

I never did come up with an adequate explanation, so I do feel your pain.

11. I don't think so in the past elections.
He did have support in Pennsylvania in the past. However, I think that this support has shrunk. I wish that I could blame it on rigged elections in the past, but it wouldn't be honest to do so.

We have a lot of really conservative people in Central & Western Pennsylvania. (I'm sure other places in Pennsylvania as well.)

8. Not only that, but
I've read that Sphinctorum is very buddy-buddy with Bevilacqua (former nether-pope in Phila), their families even spending holidays together.

I wouldn't be surprised in the least if pRick knew about the abuses years ago.

"Santorum's words come back to slap him in the face"

I hope they left a nice red handprint.

After I made my above post, I went out to cut the grass and kept thinking about the sitch in Philly w/ the pervert priests, etc...

It prompted me to come back inside and call Sphinctorum's DC office and ask,

"With the recent grand jury findings on the child sexual abuse scandal in Philadelphia, and knowing that Santorum is close personal friends with Anthony Bevilacqua, what is Santorum's reaction to finding that Bevilacqua covered up for these sick, morally deficient priests and allowed the abuse to continue for so long?"

The polite-but-clueless phone-answerer chyck said she didn't know, but she'd be happy to take my contact info and have R.S. mail me about it.

I declined, saying I couldn't in good conscience have them send me a form letter at the taxpayers' expense, especially when -- as has been the case in the past -- his form letters will likely not directly address my concerns.

In any case, I did give them my info, saying no reply was necessary, and the message I left was to urge Santorum to publicly denounce Bevilacqua's (and others') silent approval of such behaviour and subsequently the irreparable damage that was done to so many innocent children. I said that if Santorum REALLY cares about "The Family," then he'll come out loud and strong against the behaviour of the offenders -- both the pederast priests and those who allowed it to continue for so many years.
