I hate to play "calculate the political effects" with hurricanes, but... |
|
...despite all the local-official-bashing to deflect criticism of the Katrina response from FEMA and the federal level, if the response to Rita is swift and effective, won't it just prove how much blame for Katrina lies at the federal level? If the feds can act fast for Texas, it shows they could have acted fast for LA/MS/AL.

2. There's Some Different Ways To Look At This |
|
But, it looks like there's plenty of room for all kinds of perspectives. A Freeper could say that this proves that the Louisiana officials interfered with the Federal government's response.
My perspective is much darker. So much so, that I am reluctant to voice it on this board.

9. The corpwhoreate media will spin it |
|
In reality it doesn't much matter what the freepers say. It does matter what the whore media say, and here's what they'll say:
It will show that they learned from NO and are already applying it. Isn't the Dear Leader great?
It will show that NO and LA local officials were incompetent and corrupt.
And the wacko fringe will have their sinister explanations: God was punishing the evil evil-doers of evil in NO and he diminished the effects on the good Christians of Texas. Those (insert codewords of choice here) in NO were too stupid to leave and too evil to be civilized. The media will give voice to those opinions, for any who want to believe them, but won't push them hard to avoid being so over the top that they startle the sheeple right out of their trance.
It doesn't matter if any of it makes any sense. Nothing makes any sense the last five years (well, really the last 25 but it's gotten worse) to any sentient being, but the masses are hypnotized to believe what the corporate whores say, and mostly they don't hear anything in conflict with that anyway because they get all their information from the whores.

3. That's close to what my hubby says |
|
He noted that, if the response to Rita goes well, it makes them look bad. It would show what they should have and could have done, but didn't. On the other hand, if the response to Rita goes badly...it makes them look bad. Again. Period.
I figure they'll be looking bad either way. To anyone that didn't think so already, that is; they can't look good to us, those that already see this admin clearly.

I've been thinking the same thing, but haven't gotten around to vocalizing it yet. Very true.

If they can't respond to Sugarland before it dissolves, what are they good for -- even for the rich?
