HOT! Rush Limbaugh Transcript Confirms Norm Woodruff Gay Connex
Rush:

I was using email, Compuserve, on-line
services all the way back to 1985, you know, when I was
introduced to the stuff. By the late, great Norm Woodruff
out in Sacramento, KFBK, so, when I started out there.

While one of his early career mentors was a gay man named Norm Woodruff <15>, he opposed teaching grade school students about homosexuality in 1993 and wrote of gay rights as being special rights.

RUSH! by Michael Arkush
Library of Congress catalog number 93-90612
ISBN: 0-380-77539-5

Arkush was not entirely complimentary. He criticizes Rush for not crediting Norm Woodruff for pulling the strings that got him into KFBK, which was where he was working when he met Ed McLaughlin. Norm gave Rush that last chance (he had been fired a number of times and fallen into obscurity while working in baseball). Norm taught Rush how to dress for success and presented him to KFBK at a key moment -- upon the firing of Morton Downey. Arkush says Rush fails to give Woodruff his just credit for his involvement in Rush's success, which if it ever does come will have to come posthomolously. Woodruff died in the mid 1980's of AIDS. He was gay.

3. What we really need now is a PHOTO of Mr. Woodruff.
When the hurricane/Roberts/ Bush drunkard stories slow down, I'll try to appeal to DUers to help me track one down.

Surely someone with connections to the radio business can somehow track one down.

I know I'm shooting for the stars- but one with Rush as Jeff Christie in the same frame as Woodruff would be even better.

5. More: Chicago Tribune, September 26, 1993
But Arkush, who wrote his book after Limbaugh's was published in hardcover, reports at least one exception: Norm Woodruff, a media consultant to KMBZ radio in Sacramento, who helped save Limbaugh's radio career after numerous disheartening failures. Woodruff left Limbaugh's radio style and content alone, as no previous station had been willing to do, despite Limbaugh's obsession with gay bashing (for a time he called AIDS "the Rock Hudson disease"). Woodruff was the first, that is, to let Rush be Rush. Limbaugh in his book credits everyone else who helped him, but not Woodruff, who was gay and died of AIDS in the mid-1980s.

6. MORE: ADWEEK, July 29, 1985 (Photo???)
Does any DUer happen to access to back issues of this? I'm wondering if it includes a photo of Woodruff, by chance.

These listeners will hear a wide variety of topics and formats, ranging from interviews on new Coke vs. old Coke to summaries of newspaper editorials across the nation to high-tech or financial newsletter trends to the headlines in Japan, says Norm Woodruff, the radio consultant hired by KXLR to implement the format.

The station has plugged into major on-line databases, in addition to major news services, to cull the information.

"The Bay Area is in many respects a laboratory, from Silicon Valley to Marin," Day says. "There is no place more apropos for a format to be tested than this market."

Woodruff contends the format will be appropriate for the workplace.

"The music is not intrusive, the conversation is comfortable and relaxed," he says. "We may even have some dead air. We're not looking to be high-energy, go-go radio."

8. Let's keep things in perspective
I can't stand Limbaugh. He's just a new-age Father Coughlin so far as I'm concerned. On the topic at hand - it's difficult to work in the radio field and not meet / know / have colleagues / hang out with people who are not gay. I learned this during my few years in that trade. I learned a lot from the few gay guys I knew in those days. They were dedicated to their craft, were willing to pass on their knowledge, were fun to work with and stayed with it long after I left for other things. The same is probably true in any other field of endeavor as well.

I think the difference here is that Limbaugh probably used Woodruff at the time as a stepping stone and certainly abused him indirectly after Woodruff's death for personal gain. I remember hearing Limbaugh, in the mid-90s, talk about placing the plastic mailing wrapper that his San Francisco newspaper arrived in around his microphone before reading any part of an article from that newspaper. That is just sick.

The big deal to many is Limbaugh's supposed arrest for soliciting gay sex on the streets of Pittsburgh during his time there. I've read all the items about this and the claim seems very thin. I wouldn't be surprised if it's true, mind you, but nothing I've seen in convincing. The claim is in keeping with his character of saying / being one thing on one day and opposing / bashing it as evil on the next. The man has sold his soul to so many that he can't keep his debts on that account straight any more.

9. Was there ever another explanantion for why he was fired?
Seems to me the folks who control Limbaugh now likely had his more colorful past erased, just like they did with Schwarzanegger and dimson.

11. Limbaugh's alleged arrest is not the issue- the issue is Norm Woodruff.

And his 3 childless marriages, and his penchant for secrecy & contradictions.

I dont know if we can prove whether that swinging Rock & Roll DJ, "Jeff Christie" AKA Rush Limbaugh, was ever arrested or not- but that was not my focus.

Seriously, would a high-rolling power broker like Woodruff really do all of this for "Jeff Christie" without getting somthing in return?
