Just curious - is it an insult to other Supreme Ct justices to....
name a rookie as Chief Justice?

Is this a precedented thing or is Bush trying to possibly push other justices off the bench by offending them?

1. It's quite common
Nominating a new Chief from outside the court has historically been the norm, not the exception.

2. But has one from outside the court ever had this little experience
being a judge?

3. Precedented or not, Scalia must be seething.
The brass ring was right there, I'm tellin' ya, it was right there. But his reach exceeded his grasp, because bush moved the brass ring and just dropped it right into Roberts' corporatist hands.

If I were Scalia, I would be plotting revenge. Whatever happened to the famous "bush loyalty"?

5. Meh, it's just to make it easier for them to confirm Robs for two position
instead of one. Saves time and money.

Cheif justice isn't that special anyways.

8. I think ole Rehnquist named his own successor
bush owed him big time. Remember Rehnquist having stripes sewn on his robe when the impeachment started? That was the funniest damned thing I had ever seen and everyone just seemed to think that was okay and showed he was in charge. It just showed me how miserably petty and ridiculous he was. No respect for him at all but he sure didn't want Scalia or Thomas to be the Chief and that was a good possibility. I think he called in his chips from bush and will continue to haunt us from his grave with Roberts.
