Just listening to Governor Goodhair yapping about Rita's approach. He told people to 'listen to their county judges'.

What form of government does Tixis have at the local level? Are these judges in the sense of black robes or some other thing?

1. It is not ajudge with robes
The county judge is the top elected official at the county level.

He runs the county and is in charge of the County Commissioners, which is the elected "Town Council" of the county.

2. Here's a description of the County Judge
The Texas Constitution vests broad judicial and administrative powers in the position of county judge, who presides over a five-member commissioners court, which has budgetary and administrative authority over county government operations.

3. That's interesting ... so in other words, he is an ubermayor kinda thing
If I read that right, the county judge is in charge of damned near everything. He has more power than a mayor?

Here in Maryland, our county governments have county executives who are pretty much the same as city mayors in terms of the scope of their power/authority.

I grew up in Connecticut, and as I recall, up there there was no real county government; instead everything was a city with its own mayor. That may or may not have changed in the 35 years I've been gone.
