Another letter just arrived from Howard Dean about opposing Roberts.
"A few weeks ago more than 100,000 of us filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for key documents on Supreme Court nominee John Roberts. This week, just before the legal deadline for a response, the Justice Department formally brushed aside the public interest and refused to release the documents.

Senate Democrats waited for the Bush Administration to come clean about Roberts's record -- the administration chose not to. During the hearings, they asked Roberts serious, precise questions about his record and his views -- but Roberts dodged question after question.

Our Senate Leader, Harry Reid, is right: there are simply too many questions left unanswered. John Roberts, and the sham process that has accompanied his nomination, does not deserve our support.

But it is obvious that the Republican-controlled Senate will confirm John Roberts. Some people even say that it's useless for us to speak out against him. They say we're wasting our time.

But how will we win any battle if we don't stand up for what we believe and speak the truth? More importantly, how will Americans know what to expect from a Democratic Congress and Democratic president if we don't fight for our values at every opportunity?

Democrats can disagree with Democrats in good faith -- and many do on this issue. But when political calculations silence our conscience, we have abandoned our true values. We cannot let that happen.

Our party must speak plainly and fight for the values of equality, opportunity and security that bring our party -- and the vast majority of Americans -- together.

And that's exactly what we're going to do.

If you want to take a stand in your community, you can start by writing a letter to the editor of your local paper about why John Roberts is the wrong man at the wrong time. Nearly 75,000 letters have already gone to newspapers.

Don't be afraid to fight:

Thank you.

Governor Howard Dean, M.D.

1. It inspired me to write a LTTE
What do you think?

I see the republican led charge to enact a flag desecration amendment, I am hopeful they will consider adding a Constitutional Desecration amendment as well. Arguably, the Constitution stands for this Nation in a way a piece of cloth never will, it actually contains the words establishing our Government.

Sadly, this document has been viciously attacked and must now be defended. The Administration refuses to honor Congressional requests germane to their Constitutionally mandated duties, a prospective Chief Justice refuses to answer plainly worded direct questions from US Senators, republican Congressmen conduct a "Bipartisan" investigation of themselves. All of these actions and more fly in the face of the Constitution, what would the founders think of American citizens being imprisoned for years without being charged? What about heavily armed mercenaries in the streets of American cities or military confiscation of privately owned weapons? All these things are taking place here in our Country!

I think the founders would be behind any effort to stop this deliberate rending of our most sacred document and would wholeheartedly endorse protection of the US Constitution from this Administration and majority party.

2. 1-877-762-8762 - Toll Free Senate - 1-877-762-8762
Edited on Fri Sep-23-05 11:12 AM by IndyOp
I called Senators Leahy, Feingold, Kohl & Bayh this morning to tell them to STOP ROBERTS. The person at Leahy's office was really, really, really sympathetic when I went on rant (3-4 minutes) about Roberts and how appeasing bullies just makes them more powerful.

I would also encourage calling Reid, Kennedy, Kerry, and Boxer and asking them to FILIBUSTER. (I have!)

The Dems have more than enough reason to vote against this man - to use the nuclear option - FILIBUSTER. If you or I went to an interview and refused to answer the questions, would we get the job?

The young man at Bayh's office - JOSH SARGEN - hung up on me. First he interrupted me to get my address, then he made like he was hustling me off the phone, and then hung up on me. I am an INDIANA citizen and my own freaking Senator's office hung up on me. I called him back and let him know how I felt. If anyone else feels like calling JOSH SARGEN the number is 1-877-762-8762.

HEY DEMS GET SOME SPINE!!

3. He's absolutely right...

Keep saying it Howard! This Party needs to hear you!

4. Done. Sent letters to all the newspapers in the area. That is the very
least I can do. Howard Dean is working very hard to get this party into shape for the coming battles in 2006 and 2008. We all need to get behind him and give him all the support and help he asks from us.

I didn't like Howard Dean for President. But I sure as hell love him being the head of the Democratic Party. I know, not think but know, that no one else could provide the type of leadership and the guts to go out in public and make the bold statements, to tell us where we're going wrong, and to point the way to a better party and the path to defeating the republicans. I have immense respect for Dr. Dean. He came along at exactly the right time. If anyone can inspire the PEOPLE, the real democrats that make up the Democratic Party, to taken an interest in our government and to take it back from the corporations and the neocon nutjobs and the friggin' phony fundies, it's Howard Dean.

5. I say good for him for continuing to fight.
I am surprised this dropped so quickly.

He is going to make a few folks in congress upset, but maybe it is time.

6. Good for Dean. Keep on fighting.
I hope he had a personal conversation with those Democrats who voted for this guy and gave them a piece of his mind.
