Can it get so bad that it is good (for idiot son)?
NOLA essentially changed forever

Levee breaches again overtopping and reflooding NOLA

The cluster fuck that is the Tixis 'evacuation'

Gas prices through the stratosphere

Rita bearing down with a vengence with much destruction likely

This has been a truly horrible few weeks. And while there were and will be many mistakes made (at al levels, but MOSTLY by the feds ... or more specifically, by bushco alone) the whole series of events would test anyone.

Is it possible that the whole nation simply goes on 'tragedy overload' and essentially forgives idiot son? After all, 'no one could deal with all this'.

I'm not saying this will happen, but it seems to me it could.

What do you think?

1. Some of his supporters are already saying that
"He has been handed so much, we all have to stand with him"

My response is - Bullshit!

2. A lot of people are going numb
and are just standing around in despair. I fear that in this sort of atmosphere, the neocons will be able to get away with anything.

5. Yes, that's my deep fear
Something even worse than the Patriot Act. Like maybe taking away some state rights. Like broadening the definition of 'emergency'. Like .... martial law.

These fuckers certainly didn't *cause* the storms, but they are expert at co-opting tragedy for ideological gains.

Our counter, it seems to me, is to speak long and loud about how all the fuckups are bushco's and no one else's.

3. No way
The reaction to overload is collapse -- and that goes first toward anger, not to acceptance. It'll accelerate his drop. They know this, that's why they're doing all this clumsy "make-up" work.

4. I think human beings have an innate instinct
to blame 'the king' when natural disasters decimate the land. you know, the old, pagan, Arthurian mythology - 'the land and the king are one'.

and the idiot 'king' has sure been bad luck for the people.

6. I've seen some odd behavior lately
One person who's normally anti-bush and quite bright surprised me recently by telling me essentially to lay off junior and not blame everything on him. It's not that she suddenly liked *, but like her maternal instincts kicked in and she wanted to protect him.

7. Yeah ... that kinda thinking ... genuinely caring people could easily
tilt that way when faced with this incredible horror and tragedy.

8. Went down to the grocery store this morning...

The guy in front of me in line had on a T-Shirt that had a W with a flag draped over it's back, and on the back (of the shirt) it said...

(I'm not screaming, it was all in caps...)

TIME TO RALLY ROUND OUR PRESIDENT IN HIS HOUR OF NEED.

Good Lord. His hour of need!!!

Never thought I'd see the day the tide could possibly turn in his favor over being TOO incompetent.

11. Now **that** is some fucked up thinking
My theory is that truly *caring* people may see him as being more sympathy-worthy.

That T-shirt implies a continution of mindless fan worship. Rah Rah Team.

12. He was no more than twenty!
I asked him where he got his shirt, and he told me he BOUGHT IT at church on Sunday. Asked him if he was considering supporting Bush in his hour of need by enlisting, and he looked at me like I was crazy. I did find out he was buying all the soda and chips and stuff because he and his friends were on their way down to Washington to (his words)"disrupt and defend" tomorrow.... so he will be part of the pro-Bush element there tomorrow.

14. Absolutely. Idiots all over will actually feel sorry for the imbecile
and give him a break. The hurricanes will be played by the right wing media to the hilt, and fools will fall for it.
