I wonder if people will back off Ray Nagin if Rita stays a cat 3 and the people who were stuck on the interstate and especially those 24 elderly people who died when that bus caught fire would have been better off staying home. Or if this will work in everyone's favor, including Bush.
I mean, it is brushing land and logically will not intensify again, will it? The eye wall appears to be collapsing, too. What are we going to learn from THIS?

1. It could regain some strength. |
|
They were anticipating it might undergo an eyewall replacement some time today which would cause some weakening. It may intensify again as it reforms a new eyewall. Also has a bit more warmer water to go over before encountering some cooler water closer to shore. Don't know how much more warm water it has in front of it.

2. I thought it had already gone over the warmer wate... |
|
Also, he feeder bands are already hitting land. And they just said that the storm may weaken futher before the center crosses land. I am not a meteorologist, but she is also not moving that fast, is she? I thought that was one of the reasons they thought she would slack off when she began bumping land. To maintain the high winds and well defined eye wall, a hurricane has to hit land rolling or have some seriously low millibars in pressure. Now that is my very rudimentary understanding, so please don't hurt me if I am wrong.

maybe I should have said, "I don't know nuthin' 'bout no weather."
Seriously, these days we all get so much information on TV and through the net and it makes us feel like armchair experts. I just wanted to make sure to point out that I KNOW I don't know that much about meteorology.

4. What DOESN'T work in Bush's favor? |
|
You have to hand it to Bush's political advisors--they know how to turn shit to gold, even if they caused the shit. Bush got criticism about his handling of the Katrina crisis, a major American city has been just about wiped out. Looks pretty bad, doesn't it. Well, NOT TO KARL ROVE, IT DOESN'T. He was busy rubbing his hands together and saying "How can I turn this to our advantage"? Then he came up with a brainstorm--"How about using this added deficit to get rid of some social programs we always wanted to get rid of anyway"? Now, the only thing to wonder about Hurricane Rita is to try to guess exactly how they'll benefit.
