WASHINGTON, Sept. 23 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Following is a statement by Tom Kiernan, president, National Parks Conservation Association:

"In an outrageous budget reconciliation draft obtained by the National Parks Conservation Association, Rep. Richard Pombo (news, bio, voting record) (R- 11-CA), Chairman of the House Resources Committee (the most influential House committee on public lands issues), has outlined a plan to close 15 national parks and sell them off to oil and gas industries and private developers; demand that park vehicles and facilities be turned into billboards for commercial advertising; and sell commercial naming rights for park buildings, among other devastating proposals."

1. They're taking everything they can before they get run out in 06.
It's like the Russian oligarchs during the Yeltsin days.

2. Here's a link to the guy we're trying to get to replace him
I believe Jerry did fairly well in 2004 with not a lot of financial support. The campaign really thinks they have a shot in 2006. McNerney's background is in renewable energy so he'd be a good guy to have in Congress.

4. Rewriting ESA too
And check out the Resource Committee site. Wonderful reports like "Eco-hysteria" and "Mercury in Perspective". I'd rather deal with getting rid of a house full of roaches and termites than these bastards.

5. Whats new?
Remember uncle Ronnie (drug pusher)Reagan allowed the sell of 90% of Hawaii businesses to japan in the 80's. Its the republican way. Just like republicans blamed the loss of lumber mills on the spotted owls, after researching it I found out the lumber mills were closed because Japan wouldn't buy timber from america if it was cut into boards and such, they wanted whole trees so they could use their own lumber mills. Much of the timber industary today go'es to Japan. Another fact left out be republicans.
