Even by DC Police Chief Ramsey's lowball estimate of at least 150,000. I was there, and I could easily believe the organizers' estimate of 300,000, if not more. This is compared to 147,000 troops. I hope the troops know that we are trying, and even if we have to impeach or defeat half the Government to do so, we will bring them home.

1. Wow. Great point.
And if CSPAN's 500,000 headcount is correct, that's 29% of anti-war protesters are troops in Iraq.

2. Wow, 500,000? Hadn't heard that.
I got so tired yesterday that I haven't been up long enough to get much news. It is very easy for me to believe 500K. When they announced the 300K estimate at the concert, I thought it was about right, but that was before I wandered off to see the rest of downtown. Every nook and cranny was filled with protesters: it looked like all of Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House to the Capitol was filled, in addition to most of the same stretch of Constitution Ave and most of the Mall, not to mention the connecting streets (14th, 15th, 16th at least). It was an awe-inspiring sight, and if I weren't on the same side, it would also be frightening. Though this was about the most peaceful crowd you could ever imagine, politically it's looking very powerful.

It is safe to say that there were hundreds of thousands of people marching against the war in Iraq today. Police Chief Charles Ramsey's only statement was that the organizers achieved their goal of 100,000. The DC police refused to make any other estimate. C-SPAN estimated 500,000, a number that I believe was possible from my observations.

4. Amazing
Anywhere between a quarter of a million to over half a million people surround the White House and you hear about it hours later and with no pictures or live recordings (from the corporate media).

We certainly have a corporate media that's on the ball.

What are they going to miss next? World War III? A UFO landing on the WH lawn? The Rapture?

But you can bet you will hear about the next white girl to go missing or the next speech brush stumbles through. CNN, MSNBC and Fox shouldn't call themselves News Organizations. They should call themselves Ignore Organizations.
