Not sure who to be more outraged at, Sonny Perdue or GW and this misAdministration. The Governor of Georgia asking schools to close because the price of gas is so high they are afraid of how the state will be able to operate and pay to get the kids in the classrooms. That sure sounds like their property taxes are fixin' to go up. Of course in a 'responsibility' state it makes way more sense to bring each individual kid to school in a parent chauffeured SUV instead of 40-50 at a time in a state/county owned bus.

It has finally happened, our country has become a paycheck-to-paycheck enterprise and China is the checking service round the corner.

Or how about GW 'jawboning' some of his oil bidness buddies to tide us over in this time of need? Think that nice man in Venezuela offered to help.

1. It's a difficult situation

I would guess the reason they shut down the schools was to conserve power on the power grid. It wasn't necessarily about the buses per se, although they play a factor. Even if school was still in session and they simply stopped the buses to save gas, a good number of parents instead of driving their kids to school would have probably let them stay home if they weren't within walking distance. And some number of those parents probably could not drop off or pick up their kids themselves from school on account of work hours.

3. How 'bout Bush* stops flying everywhere constantly
that ought to save some crude oil that is refined into aircraft fuel. A boatload of it given his frenetic travel lately.

Have been coming here for a long time before posting. Seemed like it just got to be too much to keep it in, so signed up and dove in. Not really concerned with being totally PC about things, but don't intend to flagrantly inflame anyone.

The idea behind this posting was that it's indeed a fine mess we're in now when the kids of a state that was spared the damage of a disaster are forced to share the burden. We are all citizens/Americans/human beings in this together, but closing schools because Cheney's secret Energy Plan, Dubya's union busting Dept. of Homeland (in)Security, and Grover Norquist's drown-them-in-a-bathtub tax breaks have distracted and bankrupted us is just beyond the pale. How much clearer could the message be that America's past, present, and future have been dragged, beaten, and broken from our hands. Before our very eyes they have stolen America.

It doesn't matter if you drive an SUV or ride a bike, we are all just so many peons to be sacrificed to feed their greed and blood lust. We need to quit rearranging the deck chairs.
