What's with all the Gore threads?
I haven't been paying much attention this weekend, but there are now a bunch of threads suggesting Gore will run in 2008, or at least supporters of him on this board want him to. Has anything in the news happened recently to suggest this? If he is really running, then I might consider supporting him, as long as he stays the Al Gore of 2005, and not the Al Gore of 2000 who relied on consultants and worried too much about what MSM/Frank Luntz-produced focus groups thought of him (ie. "he's boring" or "he exaggerates.") If he runs this time, he will have an energized Liberal Blogosphere behind him to stop the MSM from taking him down again.

1. take your pick
Edited on Mon Sep-26-05 01:25 PM by Lexingtonian

He's getting a lot of PR lately and he's a great guy as a human being.

But there's also a lot of flavor-of-the-month to it, and a good amount of ignorance/denial that the Democratic Party's moderate wing is dead with the voters.

2. Gore's national tour of his climate change presentation is what is
sparking the interest along with his heroic effort to save 300 some patients of Charity Hospital in New Orleans after Katrina stranded them and FEMA failed to act and the fact that he is the keynote speaker at the DNC's major fundraising convention tonight. Also his Sierra Summit speech -- http://www.algore-08.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=289&Itemid=78 -- was dynamite.

Gore's climate change presentation is being filmed to make a feature length documentary due out this December. See Grist Magazine's article on this http://www.grist.org/news/muck/2005/06/09/little-gore/index.html?source=daily . I also heard that Robert Kennedy Jr. took a Faux News exec, who was skeptical about global warming, to Gore's speech and the Faux News exec came away convinced that global warming is a problem.

4. Whatever the bona fides of these Gore thread starters,
there can be no question that Kerry must cause a real loosening of the bowels among the neoconmen. They can politically "own" a middle- of-the-roader, as they always have done in recent years. Democrat politicians who favour the middle of the road become humvee roadkill.

8. On behalf of the Gore people, the Clark people, the Kerry people and
I presume you'd continue on with Kucinich and Dean as well, I take offense for the lot of us.

Personally, I don't post anything on Kerry unless the dude is actually doing something. I find rah rah posts as annoying as the next person.

However, most of us do not feel our chosen fellow is perfect. We just like that particular politician, and like to keep the board informed on their whereabouts.

There is nothing wrong with criticism of any of these men if it is both accurate and fair. Sadly, often it is not. Hence, several of us will rebut what we see as inaccuracy or allout bashing in regard to someone we know fairly well. I've been known to defend Clark and Dean and anyone else I see being bashed with inaccurate or out-of-context information.

There may be a few folks who are as what you describe, but you are using way too broad a brush. There is nothing wrong with being enthusiastic about someone as long as we are honest with ourselves and also see the flaws.

I take offense for all of us.

As the Deanbots started this kind of tradition, as far as I can recall.

19. Sorry, sweetie
You've got the wrong person. I don't think Dean is perfect and I disagree with him on several issues. THAT is the difference. But you wouldn't have caught that distinction, would you? No, of course not. :eyes:

22. So you are saying what, exactly?
that those who supported Dean were OK rational reasonable beings, and those who supported someone else are "bots".

Sorry, but I think there is a lot of all of it everywhere, including in the Dean wing of the party.....

So Sorry "Sugar Plum Honey Pie"....I don't buy it. :hi:

I like Kerry, but I will defend and wouldn't mind seeing for president everyone on your list but Clinton.

Please don't insult so many folks on the board. Because that's what you're doing. We can support someone without it being some sort of weird obsession. Unfair at the least.

10. There's passion for a candidate, and then there's obsession...
Many people have positive reasons for supporting/preferring whichever person they do...as I'm sure you do for Senator Kerry or General Clark.

But there are others who are simply narrow-mindedly trying to force their desired candidate on everyone else...using empty one-liners and bullheaded platitudes of naivety to "make the case" for that candidate. THOSE are the people who I call into question.

There's a difference between being a passionate supporter and being a Talking Head in the trenches.

16. Thank you for the distinction. Some folks don't make it.
I've been called a Kerrybot, a sychophant, an operative, a paid shill etc. So I'm sorta sensitive to the subject, though I actually do know what you mean about some people and their reactions.

because obviously if a bunch of us Kerry folks show up on a diary on Kos that's talking about Kerry, we must be "freeping" that diary, much like someone would "freep" or "DU" a poll.

That was the latest one.

Kerry sucking idiot!? Holy guacamole! Not yet. ;)

18. Heros like Howard Dean.
Why leave him out?

I remember those Dean supporter started threads during the primaries, don't you?
In fact, I remember those threads a few weeks ago....when the thread du Jour was "asshole Biden denounced Dean", etc., etc., etc.

I think there is a lot of what you are describing and it has gone on for quite sometime.

11. I think the Gore medevac after Katrina started it.
Then his sold-out demand encore speech in Oregon got the ball rolling. He is a man on fire, because he knows the earth will soon be toast - at least for 99.9% of current terrestrial life.

about whether he "used" Clinton in 2000 or not or whether he
gavelled down the CBC or not.

But people never know what they should focus on -- until the sky falls on their head.
