Bush must not be allowed to resign! |
|
If he resigns we could end up with Dickhead Cheney as The President of the United States of America.
But if he's impeached: "The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment" - US Constitution.
Impeachment sounds a lot better to me.

THe IMPEACHMENT won't produce jail time.
But the criminal trial that uses the impeachment proceedings as evidence most certainly can and will.

7. I agree. Maybe the Chimp can pardon his administration first. |
|
Just in case. And how many more years does he have to rebuild his image ? This might be very, very funny - if so many lives and and so much treasure had not been squandered during his coup.

From what I read, Cheney could still take over with an impeachment.

Here is a c&p from whitehouse.gov:
Section. 4.
The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.
I interpret this meaning anyone in the above list shall be removed if impeached, conviceted, etc. Not that *all* of the above list would be removed.
Where does it say that Veep would go too, if *only* the President is impeached?

Each individual would have to have their own seperate impeachment trial. Which means that, if George Bush is impeached, Dick Cheney becomes President, and would require a seperate impeachment trial to remove him from office. If Cheney appoints a VP in the interim, then that person would rise to the office of the Presidency (a la Ford) if Cheney were to resign/die/be impeached; if not, then Hastert would become President.
Even if the President and VP could be impeached together, Hastert is certainly not part of the administration and would not be included in that group. But that's all moot, because it doesn't work that way.
The entire conversation is moot, because if impeachment was looming and certain (like it was for Nixon), Bush would simply resign. There is nothing that could stop him. And the next President, which would surely be a Republican (unless Cheney is impeached as well before he can appoint a VP, and the Democrats win the House in '06) could simply pardon Bush (and Cheney, too) like Ford did.

All someone would have to do is set-off a garage door opener near Cheney in the Oval Office and *squink* that's all she wrote.
btw, Big Brothers watching over us: this is a joke. (edited to add)

must be impeached individually. If Bush is impeached, Cheney will become President. Don't misread what has been said. You cannot impeach an entire administration. It cannot be used to overturn an election. Get rid of Bush, say hello to President Cheney. Best bet is 2008.

He's the nexus of evil, and * would be quite a bit weaker without him.
If Cheney's out, then * would appoint a new veep, who'd have to be confirmed by Congress. If said appointee isn't confirmed, then when * is removed, the Speaker of the House (presumably a Dem) would become president.

Maybe. Convict? We're going to get a 2/3 majority in the Senate? It'd be nice, but my money goes the other way. Bush will leave the White HOuse in 2009, and nothing is going to change that.

26. Even the most liberal Republican senator |
|
Would never vote to impeach President Bush, unless he does something else horribly wrong that's against the law. Its taken this long for any Republican to speak up against the war, let alone go as far as saying that Bush is a liar or should be impeached. Hell, I'd be surprised if there are more than a dozen Democratic senators who would vote for impeachment.
