Interesting scenario: FEMA hires Brown to shut him up about Bush-Boozing
Michael Brown resigns from FEMA on 9/13... "Katrina drives Bush to Booze" story appears in The National Enquirer hitting newstands on 9/22...A little item on Jane Hamsher's 9/24 blog points to sources within the Enquirer hinting that one of their "Bush Boozing" sources was a vengeful Michael Brown.... Michael Brown tells investigators he has been hired back by FEMA as a consultant on 9/26..

Hmmmmmmmmmm....

And now I will leave you to guess where this bit of gossip came from, because I promised not to tell. But one of the above-mentioned folks called me this afternoon to say that according to sources within the Enquirer itself, the source for Bush's drinking story is -- an incredibly pissed-off, recently scapegoated head of a federal agency who thinks that BushCo. done him wrong.

Oh the long knives are coming out now, aren't they?

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A congressional panel on Tuesday is expected to scrutinize the decision to keep ousted Federal Emergency Management Agency chief Michael Brown on the federal payroll.

Brown told congressional investigators Monday that he is being paid as a consultant to help FEMA assess what went wrong in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, according to a senior official familiar with the meeting.

1. Seems like a subpoena would be cheaper than a consultant fee.

3. beat me to it
I've been posting this snip here and there to give a posting on this subject momentum. I wonder if this can gain traction? If some reporter might have the balls to ask Brown directly, have you seen Bush drinking, do you stand by your comments to the Enquirer. Are you afraid of getting killed or do you KNOW MORE, and have the evidence cleverly stashed so if your dead body shows up somewhere the evidence will make it's way to "the media"?

6. You mean to tell me that the Bush Mafia couldn't knock off this guy?
Brown must have some photos of Bush drinking stashed away somewhere.

8. In the first link I don't see anything in the way of evidence ...
that Brown would have known that * was drinking. Am I missing something?

I can then only conclude its a wild-assed CT.

12. the leak that's mentioned in this item is merely about naming the source
of a particular story (Bush off the wagon).

If the question is about HOW/WHERE/WHEN the source got this information (a.k.a.) "evidence"- that's a seperate question for news media, reporters, journalists, bloggers, any person to investigate. What is a fact is that The Enquirer has teams of laywers and does intensive vetting of sources, especially on an explosive story like this, so one may assume the sources had the goods.

Speculation (mine): the "word is out" about Bush's alcoholism in Washington and has been for a long time- it is not secret in the Beltway. Either Brown has heard this and/or witnessed this behavior: he spent time with Bush in NO and La after Katrina... perhaps an he smelled odor of booze on his breath, maybe he witnessed something, we don't know.

It's pretty obvious to tell when someone's been drinking when you're in their presence.
