Parents protest Georgia school closures
http://www.cnn.com/2005/EDUCATION/09/27/rita.georgia.schools.ap/index.html

Parents learned of the governor's decision late Friday afternoon. Many families had to scramble over the weekend to make alternate arrangements for their children.

Two mothers brought their grade-schoolers to the Capitol on Monday for a "teach-in" on the steps, just yards from Perdue's office.

"It's certainly caused a lot of problems for working parents today, and it causes problems for these kids who need to be learning and not just hanging out, watching the Cartoon Network at home," said mother Randy Faigin David of suburban Atlanta.

<...>

"The first thing he decided to do was close schools," Kahn said. "That shows something about his views on education and his priorities."

1. Republicans do not want children educated
Dems really need to hit home on this one. Not that they will, but this should be an issue.

2. Amazing, isn't it? In the big state of Georgia, no other way to cut costs
was found?

3. Kudos, GA parents! This was a mondtrously inane idea
and it puts parents in a horrible bind.

I love the idea of a "teach-in" at the Capitol.

4. this is my view. reading ky turnign to a 4 day school week
i am going to use this whenever i want to say how the repugs are fuckin up this country. as a parent with kids in school, i immediately went to outrage that repugs would solve money issue by depriving kids of education

we have never had to do that in the past

this is what bushco bring to the people

i think this is major and surprised that people dont seem to see how significant this is

and to the parents that dont think much of kids education, make it harder for the parents to go to work, and having to find care for the kids will outrage them in a selfish connection
