After hearing Sheehan speak several times, I think her cause is
honorable and she deserves to say whatever is on her mind AND * or at least someone high up in his administration should meet with her
BUT are we at the point where her effectiveness has waned? Is the country as a whole still listening to her? Obviously, there are many who agree as indicated by the number of protesters this past weekend-but I contend that they would have done so with or without Cindy Sheehan. Can she use her popularity and message in a better way?

1. uhh..."no", to answer your question

She has been arrested and is ready to fight the government in court. This is exactly what we need.

5. What is there to fight in court?
She was arrested for demonstrating without a permit, and she didn't have a permit. Or am I missing something? Set me straight if I'm wrong.

6. She wrote a statement..

...that was on one of the blogs saying that she would not pay her $75 fine, but would challenge the unconsitutional law that requires protest permits.

I'm sure someone recalls the blog...it just slipped my mind.

2. Who cares?
Let he do whatever it is that she wants to do.

It's worked so far. When my son gets killed in a stupid war, I'll give advice to Ms. Sheehan as to what is, and isn't, an effective way to get a message across.

12. Good Post. Cindy is doing a great job at asking why W sent
her son to die. She has every reason to do so.

Just try to make sense of a reason for this war at www.icasualties.org

Say, you don't know the guy who started a similar thread last night, do you?

18. I almost wish he'd go back to Crawford
That was the best damned visual so far. Him vacationing, her in the heat with a cross in her hand.

As long as the media is still paying attention, it's all good though.

8. I don't think she will really care what you think. Her message is hers.
Not yours. OR mine. The 'Pull Out Now' group has co-opted Cindy Sheehan, but I think she is on a mission of her own which will continue until SHE is satisfied and only she can decide when that is. I find it slightly repulsive for you to talk about her 'using' the popularity she developed in pursuit of justice for her dead son.

19. Are all these "time for Cindy to retire" posts
from the same person using different IDs? Or is it really different people with some kind of hive-mind thing going on?

16. All very good and thoughtful answers
Many true points,
She doesn't give a shit what anyone says or thinks. The root of her "popularity".
The law sounds onerous- challenge it,
The stage now goes to the courtroom.
and
whatever the fuck she does, it means nothing until we control at least one house of government.
my take? "you go girl"

17. She is what she is, and will do what she will do
However, to Joe Blow, it may be true that whatever impact she was gonna have has already happened with Camp Casey. That was the most impactful thing for ME anyway.

I think she's shooting from the hip. I don't think she's calculationing what she does enough to "use" her message or her popularity. She's gonna do what she's gonna do.

There will be others I betcha. Veterans like Hackett (they can't all be labelled "pukes") or other Gold Star Moms like Cindy or that woman who got arrested at a Pickles Rally during the campaign.

Even so, I see that the media still reports on her on a regular basis. That she has their attention is a good thing.

20. I know who that "woman who got arrested at a Pickles Rally" is!
It's Sue Niederer, co-founder of Gold Star Families for Peace. She came to our "Camp Out for Peace / Camp Casey Cedar Rapids" event in August.

Quite a powerful speech she gave; one of her stories was about her arrest.

21. She is part of a whole, there is a huge picture we must paint
to the American people.

Cindy is part of it all, and an honored part. In addition to this strong woman we have a whole big world of issues that must be conveyed to the American people.

Let's remember the people were by a majority in favor of this war.
They can still fall prey to worries about security.
One domestic terror incident and they will wooing McCain or some other GOP-PER father figure.

We need to get another message out, as well, that of our screwed up economy.

Or failed domestic preparedness.

Or lousy public education.

Lack of health care for working Americans.

Progressives are going to make a case for improving each and every one of those concerns.

25. I'm not saying it is time for her to quit--I am asking the question.
If she is still effective--fight on, my God she has earned to right to say whatever she wants to. But my question is--Is there a next step for her? Knowing the attention span of this country, could she use her message in another venue or by another means to achieve even more?
