Why is there no charges being brought against the RNC? |
|
Delay basically conspired to launder money through the RNC and they must have known what he was doing. So, why are there no charges being filed against the RNC? Did they do nothing wrong?

1. Delay is being prosecuted under a Texas election statute |
|
The RNC is in DC. If it were in Austin, others would have been indicted.

2. How in the world could you do that? |
|
The best you could do is throw a charge at them and watch it not stick. DeLay's PAC, though evidence may be solid the RNC was part of it, wrote the check. The RNC would just say this: "We didn't know he would do that."

see http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x4928442I believe that if Earle can make his charges stick, there will then be lots of room for more charges, even on the federal level.

4. Oh, Goody. I'll call Gonzales and have him put a USA on the case. |
|
Problem is, the DOJ's decision whether to prosecute is just plain power politics. And, Tommy boy is a pal from way back. No denying that.

6. You can indict individuals, not organizations. |
|
In 1973-1974 CREEP (Committee to Re-Elect the President) did all sorts of nefarious things including breaking and entering, wiretaps, etc. The individuals who worked for CREEP were held accountable (Sloan, Liddy, Magruder, etc.) but the organization isn't at fault, only the people running it.
Indeed, there may eventually be indictments against people at the RNC. Like in Nixon's administration, there is no difference between the political and administrative end of the Republicans. The two are intertwined. What happens at the RNC is only by authorization of the West Wing.
The people at the RNC have to be held accountable as well.

But consider the consequences of such an action. That would be equivalent to declaring an entire political party a criminal organization. I don't think any prosecutor would want that pinned on his legacy. Can you imagine the political pressure on that prosecutor?
No. That's not the solution. We don't want WW III. We only want accountability. If enough Repugs are frogmarched into prison, the people will take care of the Republicans.
Consider what is happening right now. Stonewalling, blame casting, Swift-boating, and every other nefarious technique to avoid accountability. How many more times, and how much longer is this going to work for the Repugs? How much longer can they go to the bank with these stupid evasions? Their account is already seriously overdrawn.
You can't fool all the people all the time.
An internal collapse is coming. If the spineless Congressional Dems help a little, it could happen sooner than later.

9. Not the entire party, just the top echelon... |
|
of the National Committee. Similar to busting the Mafia for its illegal activities, usually its the top guys and quite a few of the "toughs" that get busted the worst. Those on the lower rungs usually rat out the ones on the top for good deals, why can't it happen here. We aren't talking about throwing every single Tom Dick and Harry that is a member of the local Republican Commitees in jail. Just those who are guilty of illegal activities.
