How bad can it get .......
..... for the GOP?

I know, I know .... they always manage to beat the rap and spin their way back to the top.

But look at what's been going on over just the last few weeks:

Katrina/Brown/cronyism

Rita and the botched evacuation/continuing FEMA failures

Bugman, Round 1 (Abramoff still out there, waiting to strike Delay and maybe many more)

Frist

Fitzgerald's juuuuust starting to pop.

There are a couple of three scenarios ....

If nothing but Frist and Delay happen, that sets the whole republican control of congress a stinkin' .... and could do better than we hope for in 06 .... and 08.

If nothing but Abramoff happens, its kinda the same thing ... but only the House. If we get a toehold there, we would be on the way to climbing back.

If Fitzgerald comes out hard and the indictments go high, then we're well poised for 06 and even better for 08.

If it all hits, then there could be a sea change in the country. Republican support could well go all the way back to just the base. And we'd be able to start to undo everything that's been done for the past 5 years. The Republican party could well be out of power for a long time, thanks to their own hubris, corruption, and arrogance.

Is this too much to hope for ....... or is it possible?

1. Don't forget Abu Ghraib photos.
They have 19 days left to appeal.

2. Not only possible...
I see it as inevitable - post the Fitzgerald indictments (hopefully) and the 2nd wave of Abu Ghraib photos/videos. It should be clear to any and all who are even marginally paying attention to what's going on.

3. It is possible, the best and I mean the BES
case scenario is that the GOP is such damaged goods that they will go teh way of teh whigs... bear in mind this does not mean the end of conservatives, just the end of the GOP... This would mean a long time coming before they are in any shape to try to turn the clock back

Worst case scenario, the Murcian people don't care, don't give a shit, and diebold continues to give them all the pwoer they want and then some... and if this is the case all bets and I mean all bets are off

It will be somewhere in the middle though... not that I would not mind seeing the Pugs go the way of the whigs into the dustbin of history

5. Work in your community for verifiable voting now.
If we can't vote reliably, nothing matters. Do it before the mid-terms. Call your local election board. The meetings should be open to the public. Go to them and make your voices heard.

8. I know.
It was the best suggestion I could to think to make. Protests are important and energizing, but organizing and working locally has a bigger impact.

16. About Diebold
If things keep going the way they are with the GOP, won't there be A LOT more critical scrutiny in future elections? Won't it be harder for Diebold or anybody else to 'get away' with anything?

19. That's my hope, too
I can see everything they do getting more scrutiny. Sorta like being out on bail and not being trusted.

10. That's not going to be pretty...
We're allegedly poised for the coldest winter on record here in OR--and I'm having nasty flashbacks to the last time weathermen predicted that: the first winter of Bush's first year in office. That? Was one of the worst times of my entire life.

6. Sounds good to me
Did you hear about all the other stuff coming out about FEMA? God, this goes deep....it's more corrupt than we could ever have imagined.

The millions they have put out renting those cruise ships for the evacuees and they are not even filled to capacity....most of the people on those ships are RELIEF workers! It showed them on TV the other night living it up.....all kinds of food, drinks, just like they had paid to go on a cruise themselves. This is money that should be going to the HOMELESS who lost everything.

Then it showed all these brand new trailers that were bought by Fema for the Florida hurricane victims. Sitting there EMPTY. Millions of dollars wasted.

Then it show all these other trailers where the people are living in them from Florida Hurricane....supposed to be temporary housing....they've been living there for 18 months RENT FREE and no one doing anything about making them move out and get their own places.Guess who is paying for all this shit? :grr:

Fema is in total disarray and their isn't anyone in charge that is competent enough to do anything about it. It is outrageous.

14. FEMA camps aren't a luxury resort
>> Then it show all these other trailers where the people are living in them from Florida Hurricane....supposed to be temporary housing....they've been living there for 18 months RENT FREE and no one doing anything about making them move out and get their own places. <<

Many people in the FEMA camps would love to escape the drugs, the violence and the crowded conditions. One small problem: the rebuilding of coastal communities has meant that landlords can rent the newly rebuilt properties for MUCH higher prices. Too high to be affordable by people making minimum wage.

So these "freeloaders" have nowhere to go. They've lost everything to a hurricane, including affordable housing. But sure, kick them out of the FEMA trailers and let some faith-based charitiy deal with them from now on.

18. Do you think that everyone that is homeless
should have the same privilege? The people that have been laid off from their jobs and lost their homes should be housed too? Well,I do.

Do you approve of all the wasted $$$$$$$$$$$ that fema is throwing around....furnishing relief workers with CRUISE SHIPS????

Geesus effin Khrist....no wonder this country is so phucked up. :puke:

9. It's down to the "Adam and Steve can't get married" folks at this point
At least that's what it appears to me where I sit. But Americans are frustratingly inattentive and the wingnut spin machine is relentless so we've got to be aggressive about getting the truth out there.

12. It seems different to me this time.
Edited on Sat Oct-01-05 04:52 AM by mutley_r_us
Though, I've said this before, but it really does. They usually have the Spin Machine well oiled and running hard by now, and usually at least half of America has had extra kool-aid pumped into their veins and are repeating the mantra like zombies. This time, however, they are spinning and spinning hard, but it doesn't seem to be catching except with the most delusional. Only time will tell.

15. If the economy were better
I'd say they would have a good chance of worming out of all the messes

but -- consumer confidence is down, gas/fuel prices are up, people are getting squeezed and less likely to give a free pass to the bushies and associates...

long cold and hard winter is predicted -- this is going to squeeze people in the mid-west and north-east even more and not put them in the mood to be generous towards those in power.

bush*'s speeches are getting weaker by the day - he keeps trying to tie everything to September 11 and terra-ism. People aren't buying it, and his poll numbers show it. ( http://www.realclearpolitics.com/polls.html - has him at an overall disapproval average of 50.3% )
