smirk & Laura are suing a vest company - Lawsuit Hypocrite

http://centerjd.org./press/release/050930.htm

CONSUMER GROUP CALLS BUSH A “LAWSUIT HYPOCRITE”

-snip-

It was revealed this week that the secret service purchased for use by high level officials, including President and Laura Bush, defective bullet-proof vests from a company called Second Chance Body Armor. In July, the Department of Justice filed a civil case to collect compensation against the manufacturer and the maker of the defective fiber used in the vest.

The Bush Administration has made weakening the civil justice system a cornerstone of its domestic agenda. The President campaigned on the issue and has strongly supported laws limiting compensation to injured citizens and providing immunity to negligent corporations, while denouncing those who use the courts.

-snip-

The Government’s lawsuit alleges that the companies knew, years before alerting its customers, that the strength, endurance, and bullet-stopping capacity of the vests were substantially weaker than represented. It only revealed the problem after a California police officer was shot to death wearing the vest and a Pennsylvania officer was seriously wounded. The Government is seeking civil fraud damages under the False Claims Act and common law. A criminal investigation into the matter is also pending.

don't some of our soldiers have a law suit to file too?

2. you've got to be kidding!
What happened to tort reform? I thought the problem with this country was everyone ws suing everyone? I thought if no one sued anyone, a doctor visit would cost two nickels and a hospital bed would be cheaper than a room at Best Western. WTF is this bullshit? Lead by example dickhead. This makes me so angry :grr:

6. Proof of defect? If Bush wears one whilst being shot and it doesn't
work, then maybe he has a complaint.

Uh . . . if any volunteers are being called for . . .

7. Um, the US Justice Dept suing, not the bushes.
US Justice suing because US government purchased a LOT of this stuff, for cops & troops too. Not just chimp and Pickles. This is a reasonable action protecting federal employees and the taxpayer who footed the bill.

Not everything is a reason to point at the chimp. Once in awhile, somebody in government service manages to do the right thing despite the obstacles set up by high ranking appointees promoting ideology over rational thought. Be thankful when that happens instead of jumping to the opposite ideology and shooting before aiming.
