George Allen has ZERO service record in the military! |
|
So if the GOP decides to coronate Senator Allen as their presidential nominee over McCain, he won't be seen as having a very credible background on national security. Of course, they'll try to prop him up, but it's questionable whether Allen can get away with it the same way Bunnypants did...
I can see why Wesley Clark's supporters view his national security experience as a plus, in a potential General Election matchup against George Allen in 2008. Of course, they'd try to smear Clark as they would any other nominee...
But get this - - before his stint as Governor of Virginia, George Allen was a LAWYER!!!
Gee, and I thought only Democrats were trial lawyers... :eyes:

5. Yes, but he's a blitering idiot |
|
He can't make a point that doesn't include a football analogy. He is mean-spirited, dumber than a bag of cold rocks and doesn't have an original thought in his head. It is painful to twatch him in committee hearings, very painful.
That said, I agree, he could possibly be the Rethug nominee for Pres. They like them dumb and malleable and willing to tow whatever line Rethug Central comes up with.

He had a noose -- lynchings, anyone? -- in his office as Governor.

Really - do they clone them over there on the right? Sheesh. As much as I didn't think I could be MORE distraught, if my country elected this asshole next, I think I'd lose it entirely.

Actually, Allen is a dangerous man. I live in Norfolk and he is a very good politician. Almost like a Clinton in Republican skin. Also, he is squeeky clean. His ads all have him and his beautiful, blueblood family and voters eat it alive. I would much rather see Santorum get nominated as he has more flaws/

Bill Clinton was a Rhodes Scholar. George Allen doesn't know what a Rhodes Scholar is.

They would be on equal footing at that point because niether has served in the military. If this was the choice in '08 it wouldn't be much of an issue.

I think 2004 proved that military service has nothing to do with it anyway. Hillary is our best chance as far as I can see. Not my favorite, but best chance to win.

of requirements for presidential nominees and doesn't mean squat when it comes to the presidency.
By that logic, women should never run for president since few of them have been in the military.
Re McCain, since when does being tortured as a prisoner of war for years make one eminently presidential material?
This Ike-type fixation on military backgrounds is becoming a trifle tedious and is basically a loser. I don't want a military type running for president who doesn't know anything about domestic issues, the issues that truly matter to most people.
Besides, Allen has a far better chance of stealing the presidency because he can be manipulated by the neocons.

13. If foreign policy experience is what we are looking for... |

Then we should just run one of those military officers that sit in the situation room and advise the President.

distinguished war heroes in 1992 and 1996, despite questions surrounding his Vietnam era activities.
I think its safe to say military service really doesn't matter.
