U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof has unloaded campaign money with ties to Tom DeLay and is expressing reservations about a return to power for the indicted former House majority leader.

Hulshof said in an interview yesterday that his campaign has written a check to the George Bush-Bill Clinton hurricane relief effort in an amount equivalent to the money he received from ARMPAC. Hulshof said he thought the amount was $14,500, although The Associated Press in July reported that the figure was $14,964, based on figures from groups that track political money.

Hulshof isn’t the first member of Congress to wash his hands of DeLay money. USA Today reported Thursday that Reps. Jeb Bradley of New Hampshire and Heather Wilson of New Mexico were planning to return ARMPAC contributions. The newspaper reported that Bradley was planning to return $15,000. Wilson planned to return $10,000 given for her 2006 campaign but not an extra sum of nearly $38,000 she’d received since 1998.
According to the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks campaign cash, ARMPAC contributed more than $980,000 to federal candidates during the 2004 election cycle.
