Message to Hillary supporters |
|
Anyone posting in support of Hillary for pres in 2008 falls into one of four general categories:
1. Freeper-hyping the person most likely to get beaten in general election
2. Delusional-Primary polls this early are worthless. Hillary is leading because she is the most recognizable. She also draws a huge female base among democratic voters. She is getting a free ride because she is the only female contender against many males that have their vote split up. She will fare very poorly in an open election when she is one on one. She is simply too divisive in a time when the country desperately needs to be brought together.
3. Unrealistic Ideologue-You pretty much fall into the same category as Green supporters over the last couple election cycles. Yes, Hillary is a fine person and would probably make an excellent president, just as the Green party has many great progressive ideas in their party's plank. However, the country at present is not ready for Hillary or the Green party.
4. Feminist-You are thinking of your own self interest over that of the party. You would support just about any female over a legitimate male contender.
Focus on 06' election to install a Dem majority that our Democratic president can work with in '08. Then begin supporting Gore, Clark, or Kerry for the '08 election. These are our best bets. Others may come along that are promising, but Hillary can not repair the disdain people have for her, even if that hatred is misguided. The current Republican party is imploding and there is an opportunity to capture many moderate conservatives to our side as well as Independents. However, these people will be glad to stay put on the Republican side if Hillary is their only defection choice.
Flame away, but it had to be said.

1. More often than not, it's #1 |
|
And in the current case, I'm guessing a repeat offender who has a larger collection of tombstones than Arlington Cemetery.

Very good point JoeP i think if Clark was to go more moderate he could capture military families etc. I am pushing for him in 08.

The way you keep personally attacking any Democrat who dares oppose a DLC candidate.

I mean, I really admire Hillary and think she would make a fine president. But she's still so polarizing, she'd bring out repub voters who otherwise might stay home.

I am starting to believe that the product is irrelevant and only the packaging matters. Dubya was created out of propoganda. H.C. is well funded, well organized and understands how to campaign to win. The truth is she may be our strongest candidate. Now, she's not my first choice and I don't like some of the company she has been keeping lately. For Green sympathizers, she is not exactly the ideal choice.
Gore and Kerry have each blown it once already. (Yes, I know about FL, but that was one state out of 50).

It's wonderful to see people who try to hand out rough stuff snivel and cry when they get it handed back to them.
I'll say it again, fuck green sympathizers...they've been no help to Democrats whatsoever. For that matter, fuck the libertarians too.

7. What is needed is a progressive economic populist |
|
We need somebody who can connect wholeheartedly with the voters of America on working class issues. Somebody who consistently stands up for the working man and wants for that working man better job security, better labor standards, better health care for him and his family, and a better education to best serve his children is somebody who can win.
This NAFTA/CAFTA/free trade regimen is not working, and sending off the worker's son to die in Iraq won't do it. Nevermind cutting services to him by giving tax breaks to the wealthiest.

10. I'm a female Dem and my vote's going to Clark. |
|
The only man with a plan (for Iraq) AND the only Dem of leading stature who could turn at least two red states.
Plus, he's smart, attractive, articulate and actually respected by quite a few paleo-conservatives and moderate voters.
That's what we need: a leader, not polarizing Freeper-bait.

We need to run a Democrat this time. We have to present a genuine and clear alternative to the corporate status quo. Hillary is Republican-Lite.

"4. Feminist-You are thinking of your own self interest over that of the party. "
Well...yeah. I kinda like deciding what to do with my body without the interference of a bunch of "big" (they wish) boys in Washington, DC.
I kinda like the thought of equal pay for equal work. In fact, I'm real fond of the effort to bring equal freedoms to women in America.
It's true that Hillary is not the only one who might be on our side, and maybe I won't (or will) support her, but the reason for my support would certainly be "self-interest" as a female. (Or women's interests). And only a person who has always had the vote and equality would think it wasn't important.
If anyone, Democrat or any other party, refuses to stand up for women's rights, they won't have my vote. I doubt very much that any minority would vote for someone unwilling to stand for them.

14. Shit, I'm still trying to figure out what she ever did that merits |
|
her getting so much play in the media. I mean, I understand she married a future President, and stuck to her man when he wandered, and served as first lady in the White House. But in terms of accomplishments, what are they?
Hillary Clinton is being built up by the media.....and whatever they want, I will take the opposite. I trust the media with deciding my primary candidate as much as I trusted them when they declared that Saddam had WMDs and we needed to go to war because he was a "threat" to America's security. Twas and Tis a bunch of hyped up shit.....and nothing more.

16. I also like Hillary. BUT she already has enemies that |
|
will go after her with everything they have and most of it is already there to use. Just think of all the anti-Hillary email junk that comes through. I want to start with someone who isn't carrying so much baggage. We need to win for the sake of our nation. We need to think long and hard about who is the best person for that win. When we let them divide us we all lose.

There is a lot of time before 08 and a lot of good folks to look over - but Hillary is my pick at this point.

29. But, here's the thing - she won't bring in the slightly left |
|
voters because she's perceived as flaming.
There's also another school of thought that says the activists won't like her because she's too conservative.
Now, that said: I'm in a red state. My goal is to build back up Democrats in red states and Hillary is something I CAN NOT work with to do that.
Please, Dems, give us a liberal perceived as moderate, not a moderate perceived as liberal. I could work to flip two to three red states with the former!

Clinton supporters are Democrats. Any choice where one option is "freeper" makes it flamebait and a broadbrush attack.
