Dean Hypes Hopes For Mrs. Clinton In 2008 Race
Edited on Tue Oct-04-05 12:54 PM by Nightwing
WASHINGTON - The chairman of the Democratic National Committee, Howard Dean, hyped Senator Clinton's presidential prospects in an appearance with her yesterday, describing her as a role model for "young women who hope one day that they will have a spot on the ticket."

OK Deaniacs and my fellow Dems, explain away.

1. I don't support Hillary Clinton, and don't particularly like her...
...but what's wrong with his statement?

3. Not a thing wrong
Had posted Dean endorsed Hillary in an earlier topic and had doubters. Found the proof and posted to let them respond to it.

7. He does not say he endorses her in the article.
He says nice things about her, that's all.

17. That's not an endorsement.
DNC Chairman says nice things about Dem Senator. Mentions a spot on the ticket.

Terry McAuliffe mentioned a spot on the ticket for Bill Richardson all the time.

It means nothing.

9. Amen to that! We need young people to be engaged.
Howard is just drawing attention to an intelligent woman who can be a role model in going into public service.

5. The NY Sun makes the NY Post look like a legitimate newspaper
The quote was hardly an endorsement of a Hillary candidacy, more like an acknowledgement that someday, a woman can, will , and should run on the ticket.

Hopefully NOT Hillary though :)

Perhaps these two posters have met before. In a location with a lot of rented porta-potties, possibly ;)

19. I think you mean to be replying to someone else
I'm not calling anyone anything.

And I was one of the people who originally signed up to create the Hillary Clinton Group a few months ago.

But I think the headline of this article is really sensationalist crap. Howard Dean didn't seem to endorse Clinton, nor "hype" her. He just said that she would likelt be an inspiration to young women interested in going into politics.

8. Well, first, Dean is not stupid. Second, he's a politician.
Dean has done a lot of political posturing in his career, so he can recognize it when Hillary does it, too. Plus, she's our biggest name, our biggest fundraiser, and the biggest draw to people outside the Democratic Party. Good thing, too. It's getting a little inbred.

So Dean earns more money for the party, he earns a sense of purpose and hope for the party, he praises the people who do want to see a Hillary candidacy, he drums up interest in our one superstar that can persuade the average person who doesn't even understand all the partisan stuff, and of course, most importantly, he doesn't do anything that can't be undone at some future point.

So Dean is learning. Good. I wasn't sure he'd make it early on. He was flaming out as DNC chair as badly as he flamed out his candidacy. Now he's showing he can work the ropes. There's hope for us yet.

10. First of all, why are you quoting a HIGHLY RIGHT WING source?
Second, why are you asking us to explain the right wing spin from your right wing source?

Third, if you actually read the article and what it says, it's hardly an endorsement for 2008.

13. the article is absurd
just because the author of the article said that Dean "hyped Senator Clinton's presidential prospects" does NOT make it so ... as critical readers of the press, we need to put more emphasis on what was actually said than on what some "journalist" said ...

Dean was gracious in his remarks when he referred to Clinton as a "role model" ... it's absurd to suggest that he was making positive comments about her possible run for the Presidency ...

i'm not here to defend Dean but the author of the Sun article is out to lunch ...

14. He couldn't endorse her even if he wanted to
As national Chair Dr. Dean is obliged to remain neutral with respect to candidates for the 2008 primary.
His job is to ensure fair competition among those seeking the nomination.
Once the candidate is selected it becomes Deans job to promote the party's nominee.

I'm sure that this was taken out of context...and Howard is probably also helping her with her 2006 campaign...she is a Democrat after all...

Besides, it's way to early for any one to anoint Hillary. Dean was being diplomatic and a gentleman.

22. That's not what he said.
I don't read that into what Dean said at all. Dean was encouraging young women to consider becoming involved in politics and praised Hillary for her participation in the political process and public service.

He feels that Hillary is a good role model for women considering a career in public service.
