Bush On the Defensive Over Miers
Bush On the Defensive Over Miers
October 4th, 2005

Less than 24 hours after nominating Harriet Miers to replace Sandra Day O’Connor, Bush went on the defensive this morning and in my opinion, he simply buried himself deeper.

Bush said the White House “would not turn over Miers’ paperwork from the counsel’s office.” He also insinuated that Democrats calling for those documents was a distraction from “whether or not she will be a good judge.”

Say what? A distraction? There is no distraction in insisting that the American public have a right to know what is in those documents. Bush’s choice of Miers was purposeful and calculated. There is very little known about her positions and he wants it that way.

In the ultimate faux pas Bush admitted to his cronyism when he stated, “I picked the best person I could find. People know we’re close.” Backing that up further Bush said, “She shares my philosophy that judges should strictly interpret the laws and the Constitution of the United States, and not legislate from the bench.” Interpretation: She’ll do my bidding because “we’re close.”

1. Miers: Too much dedication NOT ENOUGH DOCUMENTS.
Edited on Tue Oct-04-05 01:22 PM by texpatriot2004
How is it a "distraction" to request the documents that could indicate what kind of judge she might be?

That lying lunatic * is such a "moran."

2. I'm not praising him, but even Dick Thornburgh would be more qualified.

4. I have a feeling Harriet Miers is gonna be worse than Roberts
Probably vote along with Scalia and Thomas constantly, while Roberts actually might vary now and then from the right wingers.

6. In some ways, I think Miers is Bush's Hail Mary pass
In football, when a team is down by a touchdown or less on the last play of the game, and far from the opponent's end zone, the team will try one last "prayer" pass -- a Hail Mary. The Atlanta Falcons used to call it the "Big Ben" play, because it was supposed to beat the clock.

Bush's agenda is going down. None of his policy proposals, no matter how he keeps trying to pump them up, is going anywhere. His administration is quickly narrowing down to the closest, most inner circle of sycophants, supporters, and people who are too far in to safely get back out. The war has been rejected by the majority of the people, managing hurricane relief isn't much fun, social security is a dead issue, at least as far as plundering the system for his own personal gain goes.

There may or may not be one more vacancy on the Supreme Court before Bush is done. So this appointment could be his last. If Miers gets in, Bush has his little insurance policy on the high court to go along with Fat Tony and Uncle Thomas. If Miers gets on, Bush has a chance to regenerate some momentum. If Miers goes down, he's had it for the rest of his second term. He couldn't come through for a buddy, nothing really interests him for the next three years, and he'll be heading to Crawford more and more.

The Miers nomination is Chimpy's way of seeing if he can still ram whatever stupid idea comes into his head through the system. I don't think anyone really advised him on Miers, it just seemed like a good idea to him. He's a bit taken aback by the reaction, but you can tell by his stubborn little boy truculence that he won't give up on the nomination, and he'll do everything he can to shove this incompetent, untested, political hack through the Senate.
