What has John Conyers done to piss off DU?
Rep. Conyers has been at the forefront of the most important issues facing us today:

ELECTION FRAUD

ROVEGATE

DOWNING STREET MEMO

MEDIA REFORM

FLOODGATE

THE WAR ON IRAQ

I really don't understand uneven support for posts containing information from John Conyers.

Go to the John Conyers Group click a link to past posts. You'll find the level of response has been either very hot (several nominations for "greatest"), or absolutely zero replies.

There have been scores of posts concerning timely information of critical issues that have passed into the archives with zero response.

This morning's post is no exeption.

4. Forum moves very quickly at times. I would guess that the
Supreme Court nominee and Bush's press conference have sucked up most of the oxygen.

I came to the forum several times during the morning and afternoon and didn't even know there was a Conyers info post.

Try to kick whatever you think is important.

7. Conyer's our man...
Edited on Tue Oct-04-05 03:30 PM by Gronk Groks
...we are just worn out from all that is happening lately. Added to the fact that we keep seeing the reThugs taking all these hits and it doesn't seem to slow them down.

If 2006 doesn't see a change, an armed revoltion may be the only way to stop these monsters. THAT is a depressing thought.

8. I respect and admire John Conyers
Very much so. But I'll be truthful -- when I come to DU, I first go to the home page, check out the articles there. Then I go to the main forum page, and check out the latest "greatest" and surf through and read whichever ones catch my eye.

Then I check out General Discussion: Politics, then Latest Breaking News, and then finally General Discussion. I occasionally check out the California forum, and maybe the Lounge. That's all I have time for, because I also surf DailyKos, The Huffington Post, and several non-political websites. All this in between working.

I only have so much time in the day, and there is no personal agenda on my end for not checking out his forum. I admire him greatly.

think he's one of the best representatives of democracy that we have going. If he ever did "piss off" anyone, it was because I believe that he was telling the truth as he sees it is because he doesn't pander to anyone, anytime.:wtf:

Its just that you post threads from other places were things have already been discussed.

like others have said, we read and move on cause the guy makes so much sense theres no arguing discussion to be had.

I noticed that you are teh one that posts threads from other forums, why not paste threads from JC forum to other ones, in so doing, you would be promoting his forum. (maybe you have done this already)

12. Rep. John Conyers is a DU hero.
John Conyers and The Congressional Black Caucus has had our back during the darkest of nights. I love him! I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone around here who doesn't have tremendous respect for him.

18. You only need to do one "wrong" thing to be written off here.
Edited on Tue Oct-04-05 09:44 PM by LoZoccolo
This is because a lot of people who spend a lot of time on message boards have this huge sense of impotence and desperation mixed in together, such that they feel their only recourse in affecting the political landscape is to post a message on DU saying that they no longer support/trust/want to vote for/want to give money to a particular figure, so that's the path they take.

Maybe there isn't always a lot of correlation between a person's acceptance/popularity at DU and the number of responses to threads about that person.

21. Respect for this man is nearly universal on DU.
He deserves all of it for all the reasons you've mentioned and more.

And you deserve some credit for being such an informative, active and indefatigable defender of his.

Bravo!

22. An idea mentioned in "Where we want to take Democratic Underground"
From - "Where we want to take Democratic Underground"

Improving the General Discussion forum. As we mentioned above, we feel that the General Discussion forum has reached the point where the large number of visitors is limiting its usefulness. The speed and chaos of the GD forum are part of what make it fun, but they also make it very difficult to find the good stuff. We are working on a significant upgrade to the GD forum, which (hopefully) will not change the way most people use it, but will make it easier for members to find the stuff that interests you (or hide the stuff that doesn't).

The idea is to classify each thread in the GD forum into a particular topic area, and then cross-list that thread in GD and in an appropriate topic forum. To the average user in the GD forum, there will not appear to be any difference in the way the forum works. However, this new set-up will have a number of advantages, and will pave the way for a number of cool future upgrades. Among them: Giving members the ability to customize GD to exclude or include topic areas you choose; Significantly increasing the life of individual threads, which will remain open for discussion in their assigned topic forum, even after they are no longer active in the GD forum; Giving members the ability to easily hide threads about hot topics which occasionally flood the forum (Pope, Terri Schiavo, Katrina/Rita, etc.); and Driving more traffic and content to the less-used topic forums. It would also have the positive side-effect of spreading around server resources and thereby improving site performance.

I look forward to the change as a way Conyers' steady voice will not be drowned out by the "noise" and will reach more readers.

Thanks, admins!

24. Oh well.
DU is like driving in traffic most days. People want to go fast and easy. Reading too much info means they'd have to pull over or something. And fairly positive threads aren't sexy enough.

Boxer threads sink like a stone as well. Most positive threads do.
