gwb's speech today..The internet is a threat, even here in the USA
Edited on Thu Oct-06-05 09:52 PM by BleedingHeartPatriot
Another snippet from the speech...giving us a glimpse into where Homeland Security and the Patriot Act may be focusing their resources and energy in the near future.

And the rationale for that focus was floated today.

Instead of attending faraway training camps, recruits can now access online training libraries to learn how to build a roadside bomb, or fire a rocket-propelled grenade -- and this further spreads the threat of violence, even within peaceful democratic societies.

3. the one that lets people get the truth about him out
Threats to him and his regime are the only threats he worries about. The rest of us are on our own, as was proven during Katirna.

6. Well, the internet is now implicated as the evil accomplice to
the terrorists.

I am afraid this is the first little trial balloon being floated. We will hear more about this in the near future.

8. Been expecting it (and worse) since the Patriot Act made it legal
to deny rights to anyone accused of being bad.

21. What part of left field did you pull that idea? Crazy indeed
How on earth do expect to keep the sheeple scared with a benevolent foreign policy. We need more terra-ists not less.

We have not yet finished screwing the sheeple.

It's hard work ya know.

Sarcasm off

10. oh what the hell,
what's the first thing revolutionaries do when they attempt to succeed with a coup?

duh..... control the media. Well, the internet is the last bastion of truth. It has been a thorn in BushCo's side. They would love to control it altogether. But the new developments noted on Raw Story may have thwarted some of it:

http://technology.guardian.co.uk/weekly/story/0,16376,1585288,00.html

But even with those changes if they occur BushCo. could still do a 'China' with our part of the internet. What Irony that would be for America.

Here's to the day the Bush cabal gets removed, hung for treason, and then the US can get down to figuring out how to really survive peak oil and global warming without one third of its people dying off from starvation. Geeze I hate these neocon pieces of pig poop.

17. Hmm. Contradicts Gore's comments about the Internet.
I TRUST GORE MORE...WAY MORE.

Al Gore's speech on the Greatest Threat to our Democracy ends with this about the Internet:

<snip>

"...The final point I want to make is this: We must ensure that the Internet remains open and accessible to all citizens without any limitation on the ability of individuals to choose the content they wish regardless of the Internet service provider they use to connect to the Worldwide Web. We cannot take this future for granted. We must be prepared to fight for it because some of the same forces of corporate consolidation and control that have distorted the television marketplace have an interest in controlling the Internet marketplace as well. Far too much is at stake to ever allow that to happen.

We must ensure by all means possible that this medium of democracy's future develops in the mold of the open and free marketplace of ideas that our Founders knew was essential to the health and survival of freedom."
