For the record, these pics are from October 6, 2005. Not some time warp.

Buckley? WILLIAM F. BUCKLEY? Why would he show up in support the Deficiter-in-Chief?

True conservatives, can you explain this?

Barry Goldwater, :wtf:

1. Uh, because he is a pompous washed up hack?
Of course I am not a true conservative, so that is just a guess.

4. I missed the anniversary
I'll be sure to put the next 50-year celebration on my calendar. Looking forward to meeting Mr. Buckley then. :)

Maybe irony will be alive then.

5. National Review is flagship publication of the real conservatives
I hate using the word conservatives since there are so many definitions and now the fundie definition seems to prevail. I often think that some authority should define them all and come up with adaptations such as conservative1, conservative2. Of course the same should be said for liberal as it is a swirling term that nobody can agree on with definition.

Buckley is a conservative1, if you know what I mean.

13. The labels "liberal" and "conservative" are no longer operable, IMHO.
I think there are the "Religiously Insane/Criminals" and "The Rest of US".

3. love this tidbit from the occasion:
"The brief ceremony was held at the Old Executive Office Building, where many presidential aides work just steps from the West Wing. Among those in attendance was former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, sitting next to conservative columnist George Will.

"Will has criticized Bush's selection this week of Harriet Miers to sit on the Supreme Court. Bush didn't mention the controversy her nomination has created in Republican circles."

6. HA!
The thought of sitting near Henry the Genocider and George of the Fluffy Words is scary enough.

Because we failed to drive a stake through his heart after Nixon resigned in disgrace?

9. I like to think that he's the ghost of Nixon
And that he's haunting the House of Bush by appearing at this time and place.

11. I don't know, but with every year, Buckley looks more and more
...like an Old Barnabas Halloween mask.

He's likely to scare the kiddies.
