Starr versus Fitzgerald
Among the many things that are instructive from the Plamegate series of events is the stark contrast between how the prosecutors have conducted themselves.
Starr's political vendetta was marked by illegal and unethical leaking of grand jury testimony and prosecutorial speculation. The RW junta understood early on that this was a case of political warfare and fed an all too willing media with salacious theories to destroy a sitting and popular president.
Fitzgerald is dealing with real criminality on the part of the powerful. But he has conducted himself in a way that completely comports with the tremendous responsibility he carries. Rather than whispering to the press, he has marshalled his facts, tracked down leads and may end up helping to dismantle the criminal machine which is the Republican Party.
Regardless of the outcome of the investigation, Fitzgerald had conducted himself as a true professional. As for the MSM which has been dubious that Plamegate would result in anything serious, they need to figure out how to do their jobs where they don't have a politically driven prosecutor drawing them a road map.

1. The biggest difference?
One was investigating a blow job, the other...treason. You tell me who is the better man.

2. Starr stirred up the populace with all the leaks.
For months, that's all we ever heard about. That went a long way towards creating all the Clenis haters.
When Fitz releases his info/indictments, people are going to go ballistic, especially those that haven't been paying attention. I like this scenario, and applaud Fitz's professionalism, even though it's driving me nuts!

3. I'll never forget seeing the Starr Report in paperback at my grocery store
at the check-out counter no less. That encapsulated the salacious nature of the thrust of the jihad against Clinton. Fitzgerald has his head down and is dealing with some real ammunition. I'm content to let the Republicans poo-poo the process because as it comes to a close, they're running scared. Let's hope it's for good reason. Rumor has it he's a pro and casts a wide net.

5. Starr was a disgrace, a partisan hack
with an agenda. He should have been ashamed to accept a paycheck.

Fitzgerald seems to be a man determined to conduct a thorough investigation that uncovers the truth. A public servant in the finest sense.
