Timothy Flanigan: Culture of Corruption and Cronyism Claims Another VictimWashington, DC - Timothy E. Flanigan, President Bush's nominee to be deputy
Attorney General, withdrew his nomination this afternoon "because of his
dealings with indicted Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff," according to the
Associated Press.
DNC spokesman Josh Earnest said that if Flanigan had to withdraw his nomination
because of his ties to Abramoff, then other Republican leaders need to disclose
the extent of their ties to the scandal-plagued lobbyist.
"If ties to Abramoff can derail Flanigan's nomination, then other high-ranking
Republicans like DeLay, Rove, Ney, and Blunt need to come clean about their
links to the indicted lobbyist," said Earnest. "It's time for President Bush to
appoint a Justice Department deputy that will aggressively prosecute criminals,
not someone who has controversial personal ties to them. Americans are ready to
reform the business-as-usual culture of corruption in Republican-led
Washington, DC."
