Shame! on the House Floor Today. Streaming video of the scene.
video: http://streaming.americanprogress.org/ThinkProgress/2005/energy_vote.320.240.mov.html

Republicans hi-jacked the vote on the floor which gave away even greater profits to oil companies at the expense of the American taxpayers. They held the vote open on the House floor while they strong-armed a few of their colleagues to change/cast their votes and closed the vote as soon as they got what they want.

The Democrats started yelling “Shame! Shame! Shame!...” on the Republican leadership.

It was a dramatic, disappointing and un-American scene.

7. beyond the pale. I'm in tears
just watched it again. everyone shpould watch this. my 15 year old son just watched. he watched the whole thing because he's in journalism and ap world history. he looked at me and said he couldn't believe it. I can't believe it.

this is why I'm frightened to death. this is not democracy, this is fascism. this is fucking fascism. bush said today that his nominee WILL BE APPROVED. not might be approved, not hope to be approved. WILL BE.

This has to stop. Our fucking democratic leaders have to get together forget the differences and stop this madness. we have done our part. who hasn't made the calls, wrote the letter, organized and gotten in the streets?

we are nothing without a leader or leaders who stand united against this monster.

I'm freakin out. This video has crystallized what we are up against. everyone must see this to understand what we're up against.

8. It reminded me of clip in Fahrenheit 9/11 when the Congressional Black
Caucus members were shut down because they couldn't get a single senator's signature (Dem either) on their complaint of a stolen 2000 presidential election. It was a heartbreaking scene of a currupt system that was failing on all levels.

18. We can dream that they would can't we?
They sure don't want to expose the Repukes in Congress for pulling this type of shit time after time. It's a shame more people don't watch C-Span.

I had actually recorded the debate on bill before that one where some great Dems (Markey, Hinchey, Kucinich, Lee) spoke up and vehemently and passionately fought for us. Then I had to leave for an appointment and missed this one. At the time I left they were having a 15 minute on that bill and announced another bill that would have a 5 minute vote would be next. Both bills concerned money for the oil companies.

Are the Dems going to let them keep walking all over the constitution?

It's time to bring legal charges against the Republican party.

Contempt of Congress?
Failure to play fair?

I'm not a lawyer, but SOMEBODY -- maybe Pelosi -- needs to consult an attorney rapidamente.

31. But the Question needs to be asked....
Because I am an idiot when it comes to Parliamentary Rules...What rule was being broken? I mean Im no genius, but why didnt someone rise up and cite an actual rule that was being broken? If the Reps are so hot on the law and rules themselves, why couldnt anyone use it against them?

Nancy Pelosi rises and says: "Parliamentary Inquiry!" And then starts asking about the dishonor being brought upon the house...Even a moron like me knows that is simply pontification...Why didnt she say " This is a clear violation of rule such and such and as precedent I cite..." Because all this emotional outbursting made her look impotent.

Also in all the posts I've seen on this thread, so emotional! As long as our response is "F*** the Repukes", how can we appear serious?

32. This isn't the first time this has happened.
In the House vote on the Medicare bill in November 2003, the Repugs held the vote open for THREE EXTRA HOURS to perform their arm-twisting to get the result they wanted. (However, I don't recall the Democrats chanting "Shame" that time.) It's just SOP for the Fascist Republic Party.

Pelosi also said at that time that the Puke actions "dishonored the House."

Here are just two accounts of that sordid episode.

doing to our country's "democracy".....

I'm proud of the Dems for standing up, but sickened that this is being done and its a clear indication that we do not have any power as the people anymore against these thugs running our country who are beholden to the corporate donations and lobbyists and who can be forced to change their votes like that....

I think all Americans should watch this video....

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.
