I understand that the White House has been less than forthcoming with information about President Bush's nominee to the Supreme Court, Ms. Harriet Miers.

On the other hand, James Dobson of Focus on the Family, claims he was given confidential information about Ms. Miers from Karl Rove which reassured him regarding positions she will take on the court if she is confirmed.

As an American, I beleive that the Senate has a right to know what was discussed between Mr. Rove and Mr. Dobson. Therefore I am writing to ask you to make sure that Mr. Dobson and Mr. Rove are questioned under oath by the judiciary committee.

He will discuss in greater detail his support of Harriet Miers' Supreme Court nomination -- and will answer critics who say he should testify before Congress about what the White House told him about the nominee.

You have no doubt heard, seen or read reports in recent days detailing the controversy swirling around Focus on the Family Chairman Dr. James Dobson over his support of Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers. At issue is a conversation Dr. Dobson had with White House adviser Karl Rove about Miss Miers' qualifications in the days before her selection was made public.

Dr. Dobson was quoted after her nomination was announced as saying his support for her was related, in part, to information he learned from Rove -- information that was confidential.

Since he made those comments, several liberal senators and commentators have interpreted them to mean he was told specifically how Miss Miers would vote on key social issues should she be confirmed to the high court. Some on the left -- including anti-family crusaders like New York Sen. Charles Schumer and Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy -- have even suggested Dr. Dobson should be subpoenaed to appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee to divulge what he was told by the White House.

Dr. Dobson will answer his critics and offer more detail about why he is supporting Miers during his daily radio broadcasts on Wednesday and Thursday. He will be joined by many of those who know Miss Miers best, who will discuss their own reasons for believing she will make exactly the kind of judge President Bush has promised to put on the bench -- a "strict constructionist" who recognizes that a judge's role is to interpret law, not make it.
