NEW DATA: 26 CONGRESSMEN BOUGHT OUT BY REP. DELAY
Congressmen Caught In Rep. DeLay's Web Of Corruption Under Fire

WASHINGTON - Twenty-six U.S. representatives received the maximum contribution allowed from former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay's political action committee this election cycle, according to an analysis released today by the Campaign for America's Future. The data, prepared by the Center for Responsive Politics, outlines $10,000 contributions since the beginning of 2005 from Rep.DeLay'sARMPAC.

The 26 members are Rep. Bob Beauprez, R-Colo., Rep. Henry Bonilla, R-Texas; Rep. Charles Boustany Jr, R-La.; Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va.; Rep. Chris Chocola, R-Ind.; Rep. Geoff Davis, R-Ky.; Rep. Charles Wieder Dent, R-Pa.; Rep. Michael Fitzpatrick, R-Pa.; Rep. Jeffrey Fortenberry, R-Neb.; Rep. Jim Gerlach, R-Pa.; Rep. Robin Hayes, R-N.C.; Rep. John Kuhl Jr, R-N.Y.; Rep. Marilyn Musgrave, R-Colo.; Rep. Anne Northup, R-Ky.; Rep. Dave Reichert, R-Wash.; Rep. Rick Renzi, R-Ariz.; Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Ala.; Rep. Jean Schmidt, R-Ohio; Rep. Joe Schwarz, R-Mich.; Rep. Rob Simmons, R-Conn.; Rep. Michael Sodrel, R-Ind.; and Rep. Heather Wilson, R-N.M.

Campaign for America's Future deputy director Ellen Miller said the members who took the money illustrate a culture of corruption.

"Looks like Rep. DeLay was trying to buy some insurance in case trouble came down the pike. Trouble is here," said Miller.

Rep. DeLay's political action committee received most of its funding from big corporate donors, according to the analysis. The top 10 recipients of Rep. DeLay's money since 1994 include Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., who received $48,500; Rep. Robin Hayes, R-N.C., $47,722; Rep. Mike Ferguson, R-N.J., $47,403; Rep. Heather Wilson, R-N.M., $46,959; Rep. Anne Northup, R-Ky., $42,000; Rep. Chris Chocola, R-Ind., $40,000; Rep. Rob Simmons, R-Conn., $39,500; Rep. Sam Graves, R-Mo., $35,000; Rep. Jim Ryun, R-Kan., $31,777; Rep. Clay Shaw Jr., D-Fla., $30,020.

1. We can defeat all of them but
All of them except Bonilla and Schwarz have won election victory by 55% or lower in the past 4 years. We can defeat them.

5. MoveOn has my congressman Adam "Opie" Putnam with $15,000.
I don't see him listed here. I was going to call his office today about it because of the note from MoveOn. He is the red-headed twerp who votes with Bush 100%.

6. Recommended. An important list -- their associations with Delay must
be an issue in 2006. We need to get this info out there.

8. Ya know,
I hate to raise it as a point but, we should be informed. There may not be laws broken in some of these cases. Wouldn't it depend on the campaign law of the individual's State?

I'm not sure, anyone know the law regarding corporate donations?

And what's up with the low donations? Does that make Sensenbrenner a $20 whore?

The auctioneer cried "Sold American" as the hammer came down.

9. Thinking about it...
If this was corporate money, then if thier campaign sent corporate money to The RNC like Delay, then I think they forgot to put the detergent in when they laundered it. All the like Texans should be charged, right?

11. These are all federal representatives, thus all fall under federal laws
regarding elections and campaign finance.

They have all partaken from the same tainted well.

12. I thought Delay was indicted under Texas law?
Or are the 'new' indictments Federal?

13. Because he laundered or conspired to launder
corporate money through his PAC to state candidates. That's a violation of Texas state law. At the time, it was not a violation of federal law but it would be now - thank you McCain-Feingold.

The question arises that if he was doing this illegally in Texas, was he continuing to do this after it was illegal for these federal candidates/office-holders to receive such funds? No, we don't have any clear evidence at this point that any of these recipients have broken the law in receiving corporate donations from Delay's PAC. But what are the chances of that? These congress critters should at least be shamed into giving the money back or, barring that, donating it to charitable organizations.

Only congress and the media can put pressure on Bush's FEC and the AG to investigate Delay's federal campaign finance issues. What are the chances of that happening before 2006 and we turn over control of at least one house?

10. How about cross-posting to the activist forum
...and turning DU loose. Winning these 26 seats would win the House.
