groups sue to preserve roadless areas in national forests
www.wilderness-sportsman.com

Major environmental groups sued the Bush administration Thursday over its repeal of a Clinton administration ban on road-building and development in vast pristine areas of U.S. national forests.

The suit in San Francisco federal court by 20 organizations, including the Wilderness Society, the Sierra Club and Greenpeace, follows a suit filed Aug. 30 by California and three other states. Both challenge the government's decision in May that potentially opened some of the forests' 58.5 million roadless acres to logging and mining trucks and off-road vehicles.
