President Allen is nominating "General Warren Keating" (Wes Clark) as her Veep. Keating is the former Supreme Allied Commander Four Star General who ran as the Democratic VP nominee in the prior presidential race in which the Dem nominee was perceived as too liberal and needed national security credentials on his ticket.

Keating, it is said, led a successful war in the Balkans and didn't lose a single American life.

Now GOP operatives are concerned that a Democrat is being nominated to serve as VP in a formerly Republican administration. One claims Keating promised to enter politics as a Republican (the show is playing on claims made about Clark) and that he is a "turncoat" for joining the Democrats.

Their plan to smear him includes the claim that serving on the battle field has softened him on national security issues.

1. See how it develops
I don't get ABC, so I can't watch it. But Steve Bochco's running it, so I have hopes it will be a quality show. Fingers crossed.

3. I saw episode 1 and was VERY impressed
As a West Wing fan I wanted to dismiss this as a knockoff but it's a very different show. Geena Davis can flat-out act, too. And Donald Sutherland's no slouch.

13. Sutherland interviewed recently with the Beeb
'COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF' SUTHERLAND: BUSH WILL DESTROY OUR LIVES

Choking back tears, COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF star Donald Sutherland warned this week: President Bush "will destroy our lives!"

The star of the new ABC drama, which follows the first woman President of the United States, lashed out at the real White House during a dramatic sit down interview with the BBC.

Sutherland ripped Bush and his administration for the war and Hurricane Katrina fallout.

"They were inept. The were inadequate to the task, and they lied," Sutherland charged.

"And they were insulting, and they were vindictive. And they were heartless. They did not care. They do not care. They do not care about Iraqi people. They do not care about the families of dead soldiers. They only care about profit."

At one point during the session, Sutherland started crying: "We've stolen our children's future... We have children. We have children. How dare we take their legacy from them. How dare we. It's shameful. What we are doing to our world."

Sutherland went on rip Karl Rove's "methods and means" against people like Cindy Sheehan.

"We're back to burning books in Germany," Sutherland said of NBC's editing out of Kanye West's comment on Bush during a hurricane relief telethon.

28. I thought the dialogue was awful...
the emotional orchestrated music didn't help. I didnt' make it through the first episode, I kept switching back and forth but it never improved.

5. GOP smear Clark ASAP...is the MOTTO....
always has been always will be.
Odd how it tends to bounce off though.....as he becomes more and more popular with Dem activists!

Wonder why Clark gets the opposite treatment that Hillary gets? GOP always seem to want to discuss her "inevitable" nomination....but never really "smear" her. Mmmmmm.

6. I wish I could see it
You know, it may not be a smear, just realism. It's not like these things weren't actually said over and over, ya know? It could be showing something about real politics.

But you're on the West Coast, so you haven't seen it yet, either. Let me know, Frenchie, what your impression is later.

20. Do you really want an answer?
Because if you did it's very simple: Because he would realign the electorate....it would change everything (bust their lock on the military and 5 states swing into our column.)

ps. I hate this fucking show.

18. Keating said he was picked as the running mate because the...
..Dem nominee had no national defense experience and was thought to be too liberal.

I took it as Dean.

Could have been Kucinich, though. Or Sharpton... Coulda' been.

11. Boy....they are really hitting close to home.....
I remember the smears based on a joke that Clark had made.....at a time he didn't realize that it is the Republicans and the Corporate media who call the shots in Democratic primaries.

12. Let me clarify something...
The actual GOP isn't smearing Clark through this TV show. The GOP IN this show is about to smear the character based on Wes Clark.

15. That's what I thought you said....
It's like a mirror....except for at least on the show, he actually gets airtime....cause he didn't get much during the real primaries....except for the smears.

14. They're blending a bit of Kerry into the character...
"allegations that some of you commendations may have been exaggerated..."

He just said, "Templeton... I'd like to kick is ass!" (Templeton being the GOP house majority leader.)

24. I wish ABC would air this at a different time
I work during primetime and my two VCRs are already busy during the Tuesday 9pm slot with "The Amazing Race" and "The Office."

It's very interesting to hear that a character in a TV show seems to have a lot of Clark traits.

26. And the character shows integrity.
He is willing to sacrifice his personal comfort for his country. A trait we've seen in Wes also.

I love the woman as president role and all the actors are doing great in their characters. It appears to be a quality show so far.
