National Day of Action: Demand an Independent Katrina Commission! |
|
Why hasn't there been a National Day of Action declared by an alliance of groups, Moveon, even the DNC... protests and rallies across the country. Where is the demands? I just saw a scary headline from Reuters:
"Bush tries to move beyond criticism over Katrina"
WTF? I was one of many here who thought Bush was fucking up so badly in his non-response to Katrina that Bush was certainly toast... that the entire country would wake up to see that we Bush haters have been right all along.
How do you go about declaring a "National Day of Action" and have it fare fairly successfully. Where is the activism on this front? Moveon has one petition campaign. We need to do something. We cannot let this fall through the cracks.
Should we declare a national day of action ourselves as Duers and then just spread it across the internet... the blogs, local democratic party, college campuses... Saturday, November 5.
Or do we try to prod Moveon and the existing national action infrastructure to act?
We need to do something.

2. I absolutely agree. Bush is not the only one dropping the ball on this. |
|
We clold at least start a campaign to contact every major group we know to demand a fair shake for the evacuees, demand their right of return' demand accountability id the contracts, demand a full accounting of the missing and the lost and demand a full independant investigation of what went wrong. I would love to see DU take the lead in this! We could do it!

7. thanks, the question is how practical is it to just up and call |
|
a National Day of Action without a pre-established activist network and infrastructure. Of course you could say that DU is a pre-established activist network and infrastructure unto itself.
