Dr Susan Purcell slamming Chavez...for electoral manipulation.
Edited on Wed Oct-12-05 12:10 AM by McKenzie
In her testimony before the Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere of the US House International Relations Committee Dr Purcell stated:

<snip>

"Chavez then decided to use the electoral system to win the presidency and subsequently used democratic rules of the game to concentrate ever more power in his own hands.

Civilian coups, whether engineered by autocratic populist opposition leaders or incumbent presidents who use democratic processes to undermine democracy, constitute serious challenges for the future of democracy in Latin America and for U.S. policy."

</snip>

Ummm...do you know what "irony" means Dr Purcell?

3. The hearings were a RW orgy!
Although we have been a little rough of Dr. Purcell, I believe in fairness we must concede the she was in her testimony infinitely more fair and infinitely more intelligent than the other witnesses and speakers who include The Honorable Dan Burton, The Honorable Norm Coleman, The Honorable Charles A. Shapiro, The Honorable Adolfo A. Franco, Arturo A. Valenzuela, Ph.D., Michael Coppedge, Ph.D., and Jaime Daremblum, Ph.D. The other witnesses and speakers, after duly examined and certified by a psychiatrist, should be locked in an extremely secure cage and kept in the nonpublic areas of a zoo. Perhaps, except for subcommittee hearings, this is already the case.

Coleman and Burton, what a pair of assholes!

5. Is it me or is the * administration out to get a popular president
supported by the majority of his electorate?

It's un-American, that's what it is.

6. * & Oil-Thirsty Cronies & Friends Are Out to Get Venezuelan Oil...
...as Chavez has constantly tried to tell the world. He's even claimed that this corrupt administration has tried to send in covert agents to assassinate him!

Although we have no hard proof of that--other than a report coming in that the U.S. has a few "missions" roaming around that country, but can't speak about it--I really won't be surprised if it turns out that Chavez is telling the truth all along.

I mean, the guy's a branch in American oil conglomerates' eyes because Venezuela is an oil rich country, and he ain't playin' ball with the Cartel and givin' it up for cheap!

He has the audacity to actually invest back into his country, and his people, the profits made off the exported oil--<gasp!>

The man is a scoundrel, I say! Shameless! :sarcasm:

8. Empowering the people keeps in power the party that represents
the interests of the people, so they call that consolidating power?

Chavez, from what I can tell, has devolved political power at every turn, which makes it harder for the plutocrats to regain power.

It's absolutely BIZARRE that conservatives talk about this like it's anti-democratic.
