ELECTION 2005: Governor keeps S.B. visit quiet

NEWS-PRESS STAFF WRITER

Invitation-only meeting part of effort to boost four ballot initiatives
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is in Santa Barbara today for a Town Hall meeting -- except very few locals were actually invited, much less informed of the event.
...
The Santa Barbara Chamber of Commerce confirmed receiving a somewhat cryptic phone call Monday afternoon, offering invitations for up to 10 members to attend the forum at an undisclosed location Wednesday morning. The Goleta and Carpinteria Valley Chambers of Commerce received similar announcements.
...
On Tuesday afternoon, none of the organizations would say specifically where or when the meeting would take place, only that they were to refer all inquiries to the governor's office.

Not until after 5 p.m. Tuesday did the governor's press office make a formal announcement of the meeting, billed as a "town hall," starting at 11:30 a.m. at MarBorg Industries headquarters on North Quarantina Street. The office did not specify if the governor would attend other events while in town.
......

Schwarzenegger is afraid of the public...hence the stealth campaign to rustle up support for his initiatives.

If you can go....PLEASE do. I know it's short notice.

Union members from Santa Barbara IAFF (Fire Dept.) will be there.

Sorry to be reposting this as a dupe here but it no longer shows up in the latest posts if just in the CA forum.

2. How the hell do you promote your agenda via an invitation only
meeting? Wouldn't this be people who already support his initiatives?

Shit, he's copying from Shrub's restricted appearances!

4. Gee...

Let's just hope that no one calls in a bomb threat or sets off the building's fire alarm during this event.

5. I just called his office to complain.
MarBorg Industries: 136 North Quarantina Santa Barbara, CA

Local Fire Department Union members are there, teacher's union members too. NOTHING at his site...no press release, no media coverage. I didn't find out until just before I posted the article...and I only checked for it after I had spoken with a union member this morning.

Email Ahnuld:

http://www.govmail.ca.gov/

Write to him and call him:
Governor's Office

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
State Capitol Building
Sacramento, CA 95814
Phone: 916-445-2841
Fax: 916-445-4633

"Julie", at the phone number above claimed that all of Arnold's "meetings" are public knowledge and that if I have an issue with his scheduling I should call his campaign office at (310) 664-9002

Julie refused to give me her last name. She said she's not required to do so. I asked her who pays her salary. She said, "The state of California" and I told her that as a taxpayer, I pay her salary and I was entitled to some answers. I wanted to know why Arnold is conducting a secret stealth campaign with hand picked Chamber of Commerce members to push for his initiatives. I asked why the information was released ex post facto. Her response was that I must be upset that I wasn't personally invited. I told ner no, that I was upset that the voters of California were not informed so that we could protest. She said his appearances are not made public for security reasons. I told her Arnold is taking a leaf from Bush's play book and hiding from the public and then putting out photo op misinformation. Julie said that "anyone" can call the Governor's office any time and email him too and that there is a lot of support for these propositions. I told her I understood all that but there was NOT a lot of support and she was being misleading and disingenous with all her replies to me. She tried to tell me that this town hall meeting was well publicized, as are all the Governor's appearances and that must be true since I had read about it in the paper. I asked her not to play games with me or be coy since I can read. I told her I knew all about the Rove/Ginsberg/Issa plans and actions regarding the recall of Davis and that we didn't want a recall in the first place. She denied that the people I had met in front of my local supermarket with the recall petitions were from out of state. She tossed in that "out of state unions" were coming in to assist our unions. So I asked her about Enron and the lawsuit Davis had filed for the price gouging, she said "that's a private company" so I asked her why Arnold had taken money out of the school budgets...she told me I was wrong about that. She also claimed that Arnold is not trying to silence the unions nor take their retirements. I again pointed out to her that I can read and I have the propostions sitting here in front of me.

She told me that if I don't like it I can go now and let the Governor know how I feel. I told her it was hard to find him since he's a bubble boy just like Bush and they keep all their meetings secret. I asked her where Ahnuld will be tomorrow, or the next day. She can't release that information. I asked again why he doesn't let us know where these fake public meetings are going to be. She said no politicians realease their schedules. I said no, only Republicans hide from the public because they don't want to hear what we have to say.

I'm fuming and ready to spit nails.

9. The phone number she gave me...
...no answer. I let it ring 30 times, called back and let it ring 30 times again. Nobody picks up. Nice way to get rid of me.
So, I just faxed the SB News Suppress article, attention Julie, with a cover letter stating that I didn't appreciate being lied to and sent on a wild goose chase and that these tactics will NOT work since we're not as stupid out here as the Governor seems to think.

This is all CRAP, I tell ya! The union busting going on in CA will affect us ALL. Attacking Big Blue is NOT going to work. Enron is a "private company" so is above the law? Jeebuss H. Cripes...ghod help us all. Luckily, Ahnuld is as out of touch as Chimpy so he won't see it coming when we broadside him in 2006. His time is up. Back to "moofies" girly man! Ackshun! Ackshun! Ackshun!
WE have to get on it, MP....nobody's coming to help us. My Congressthug, Gallegly, (gerrymandered up into my territory a few years ago) is complicit in all of this. At least Lois Capps can be relied upon but she's just one voice.
Time to get right back into the fetid, bloody trenches.

Lying sack of shit!

The true intent of Proposition 75 to the unions

And trust me, if the firefighters get fucked over, we ALL get fucked over. Photo ops notwithstanding, those guys, who are usually quite conservative, are PISSED.

7. Is Cali due for a fake terra alert to bolster Arnie's poll numbers?
Or maybe he's meeting with some energy officials about drilling in the Santa Barbara Channel.

BART Security Up After NYC Terror Threat

There was a "minor" oil spill here yesterday. A broken pipeline was "contained" quickly. It got brief coverage on KEYT (local ABC affiliate) last night but I find NOTHING on it today. I remember Platform A's blowout in 1969 and its aftermath. People in this neck of the woods have long memories. Earth Day was born out of this tragedy.

HOWEVER, HR 3893,http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d109:H.R.3893: arm wrestled into passage, 212-210 on Friday, allows Chimp to drill wherever he wants, put refineries in any state, with no recourse but in Washington D.C. If (when) the Senate passes it...we'll see new oil drilling in the Santa Barbara Channel. He's already got his eye on new platforms in the Gulf and off Florida's coast.

And, yeah, (tinfoil?) we're overdue for an earthquake...I'm hoping they can't "make" those things happen at will, but nowadays I just don't know.
