Dean Commemorates the Start of Yom Kippur
Washington, DC - Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement today commemorating the start of Yom Kippur:
"Tonight at sunset, Jewish families in America and around the world will begin observing Yom Kippur, one of the most important holidays of the Jewish year.
"Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, is a day set aside to reflect on the previous year and amend past trespasses. Honored with prayer and fasting, it serves as a sacred reminder of our own humility and a reflection of a higher ideal for humanity.
"Through repentance, communal prayer and self-sacrifice, this is a time to remember the less fortunate among us and to commit ourselves to working for a more peaceful world.
"On this holy day of Yom Kippur, my family and I express our best wishes to the members of the Jewish community in America and around the world."
