3. There it is!
But now I am confused. This clause:

"Allen, who in 2005 co-sponsored a resolution apologizing for the Senate's past use of the filibuster against anti-lynching legislation in the 1920's, displayed a Confederate flag and a noose at his home."

That's a good thing, isn't it?

The next part of the sentence is definitely bad, though. But what does it have to do with the first part?

4. Do you believe in the tooth fairy? Santa claus? The easter bunny?

You think George Allen's willingness to display a confederate flag and a noose would doom his presidential bid, so apparently you're prepared to believe anything.

Seriously, are you from Virginia? I am. I saw George Allen crush Mary Sue Terry in 1993, and then defeat Chuck Robb in 2000. Nobody's going to by the "Allen is a racist" charge. People didn't then, and they're even less likely now that Allen was a chief sponsor of a senate resolution apologizing for the senate's failure approve anti-lynching legislation. The Virginia electorate of today is hardly a hotbed of raciscm. After all, we elected the first black governor since reconstruction, which is more than New York and Massachusetts can say.

What do you expect would happen if the usual suspects like Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton and Howard Dean start accusing him of being a racist? Personally, I think it would probably boost Allen's standing in the polls. The simple fact is that anyone who could possibly buy into an "Allen is a racist" smear campaign isn't going to vote for him anyway.

5. Actually, I am from virginia.... sitting in Norfolk as I type.
And while I don't believe that this alone would doom him...... I do think that it should be looked at more closely by the press.
Now that the media/GOP salad tossing event seems to be coming to an end.
And I voted for Terry and Robb.... And for wilder.

I think it's a sign that now that great grandson of a slave is the mayor of the former capital of the confederacy.... and pretty cool too.

7. Are you kidding?
Do you think that black people are going to vote for someone with Allen's history?I am black and am well aware of Allen's racism. I don't think he'll get too many votes from liberals or progressives or any person who is not a racist. Allen is racist through and through. He was against Martin Luther King's holiday, and was opposed to the 1991 Civil Rights act. He initially defended Trent Lott, but only changed after the outcry. He has been racist since a young man and hasn't changed. Once the story gets out about him, he won't get any black votes despite his sponsoring of the lynching apology. That was just a ploy, easily seen through. His record of racism is long and some of his racists acts are recent. The Civil Rights community and various organizations will make Allen's record on civil rights known to the country. The racists will vote for him, people who are not racist will refuse to do so.

9. So you think only racists voted for him in Virginia?
Apparently you do. So I suppose it's easy for me to understand why you'd think that George Allen wouldn't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning a presidential election. Of course, you'd be wrong. As I said before, the only people who would care about this wouldn't vote for him anyway. Since you'd obviously never vote for him anyway, I find it hard to take your assessment of what other people would do seriously.

And were you aware that black people voted for George Bush, even though he appointed a staunch opponent of court-ordered desegregation as attorney general? They didn't vote for him in large numbers, but to suggest that no black people would vote for Allen is flat out ridiculous.

8. Didn't he once say that when Hillary first got elected Senator
no Republican Senator ought to ever Co-Sponsor a bill with her and totally ignor her. Such a mean, petty and vindictive excuse for public servant or human being he appears to be. :grr:

10. Also, I almost forgot he once give a speech
at a RNC meeting or a Republican fundraiser. He allegedly made a comment that and I quote "Just Defeating Democrats is not good enough they need to have their teeth knocked down their whinning, liberal throats". Nice Christian fellow isn't he. I would appreciate it if someone could provide a link to that story for me and to DU members as to when he made that comment and also the remark I mentioned in an earlier post about Republicans should shut out Hillary Clinton in not Co-Sponsoring any bills with her. He also said no Republican Senators should appear in any photos with her and more or less ignoring her existence as a Senator. The American people ought to know what a mean-spirited and petty scumbag he really is. Thank you. :dem: :kick:
