The media's refusal to accept responsibility....
Before the Iraq war, they had their war bonnets on and were cheering mightily for us to defeat Saddam and get rid of those WMDs and nuclear materials. This was going to be their great adventure. They had heard all the old reporters talk about Vietnam and they wanted something to tell their grandchildren about. So they told the tales of war, as supplied by the White House and their propagandists in the VP's office.

They were not skeptical. They had no desire to investigate. They were ready to go to war and to seek their own glory. They would embed themselves with the American troops and march right into Baghdad. Like children at their first Fourth of July fireworks show, they cheered at the sight of "Shock and Awe".

But the war was not the exciting adventure they thought. Two years later, we are closing in on almost two thousand American dead and reportedly tens of thousands of Iraqi dead. Iraq is on the virge of civil war, if it has not already collapsed into it. We are spending ourselves broke trying to bribe our own troops to stay and fight and to try and get some help, just a little, from our allies, the new Iraqi Army.

But the media questioned nothing. The story about Niger yellowcake, that Bush even mentioned in his SOTU address, received no investigative attention. They were cheerleaders for the war. And now, they still refuse to accept any responsibility, as one of their own stands in front of the Grand Jury, pretending they had absolutely nothing with the 2 thousand troops killed there.

1. Another thing they won't cop to
is their primary responsibility for the "election" of Bush in 2000. If the press had been fair and professional in 2000, Gore would have had significantly more votes. Instead they conducted a relentless War on Gore for 20 months as thoroughly documented by Bob Somerby of the Daily Howler:

2. The media is Issue Number One when we get back in power
A fair and honest (I like your word - professional) will allow the sheeple to see the turth and make up their own minds instead of having it made up by rush and woplf and fat timmy and tweety and brit and sean and the whole host of camp followers and hangers on.

4. Its a chicken and egg thing
I think if we had a fair, honest, professional media, they would report on the election issues and with that scrutiny the entire citizenry would take to the streets with pitchforks and torches.

5. I hear you. First we get the free press, I agree.
How do we do that exactly?
