Frist subpoenaed by Securities and Exchange Commission
sheesh ... with all the subpoenaes and indictments maybe the Dems should start talking about building more prison space ... the good news just keeps rolling in ... the following appears in Thursday's WP:

source: http://today.reuters.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=topNews&storyID=2005-10-13T045959Z_01_ROB317652_RTRUKOC_0_US-FRIST.xml

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist has been subpoenaed to turn over personal records in an investigation into possible insider trading, The Washington Post reported on Thursday.

The Securities and Exchange Commission issued the subpoena within the past two weeks, the newspaper reported, citing sources familiar with the probe. <skip>

Frist aides previously said he had been contacted by regulators but did not mention that he had received a formal request for documents, The Washington Post said.

Authorities are looking into Frist's recent sale of shares of hospital operator HCA Inc., co-founded by Frist's father and brother. The sales took place just days before HCA's stock price fell on a disappointing July 13 profit outlook.

The newspaper, citing sources who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Frist was expected to testify under oath about what he knew about HCA's financial standing in the weeks before the stock sales.

He's one of the New Republicans, therefore, if his mouth is open, he is lying. Simple, straightforward,

The time has come.

Alberto will approve it. Trust me.

3. Uh Oh . . . Spaghetti-O!
Looks like Frist may have messed up too - again. Frist is delusional if he thinks he has a chance at the Presidency. If I were him I'd focus on trying to clear my name, and MAYBE get re-elected to the Senate. This man is a moron, and it's not surprising he's popular with NO ONE, not even the Senate Republicans , whom he has failed turn into a real caucus.

I think we have enough prison space though, just for one more!

31. No, no, no!
These people need to be on display!

They need to be incarcerated in mobile glass cages. They need to go from town to town and be parked in the town square for 24 hours, then move on to the next town. Mandatory for any civics class in the area to go view them.

plenty of room for this whole cabal. Either that or send them to Gitmo. I hear the food there is great! Two fruits!

19. Wish I knew "how to Linux"
Seriously. I'm trying to figure out if I can learn it enough to make that my next computer system. I'm so sick of fighting adware, viruses, and spyware on my system on a daily basis that I thought of getting a Mac next, but Linux just seems so interesting...and alien to my non-geek brain.

20. Try a bootable Linux CD.
It'll be slower running from CD, but you'll get to try and look without committing to your hard drive.

Try Ubuntu's Bootable CD.

Or, Knoppix is another.

An interesting one: dyne:bolic (a Linux-based, bootable audio/video production studio on a single CD)

Linux makes computers fun again.

22. If you get (free) Mozilla or one of its derivitaves as a replacement
for internet explorer, Zone zalarm (free) as an anti virus and firewall program, you'll find that windows does quite well, although Linux is the OS that I want to get as soon as I can justify it. One of the ad removal programs (Ad Aware is a good one and free) will clean up anything that escapes - rare.
I have one pos/accounting program that I have to run occasionally and it requires windows xp, otherwise I would have switched long ago.

32. I have all that stuff EST and spend about 10 minutes a day
updating and running the programs to keep the system free of crap. I have SBC DSL and they are just the worst for loading crap on your computer you don't need or want. If you remove it, it takes awhile to work around the functionality problems.

They like to shut off my service because they say I'm "not registered" even though I have registered a million times. It's because they can't "see" me with this firewall.

Actaully, the new ZoneAlarm was a disaster for me. I finally unloaded it and got Sygate since ZA wouldn't let me go back to the previous version.

37. I have very little problem with ads, viri, or other such
villians. Of course, being limited to dialup probably has some effect, as well.
I don't like the newer ZoneAlarm nearly as much as the older ones--couple years back. I suspect you are far beyond me in your understanding of the issues.

33. Another Linux advantage.
Edited on Thu Oct-13-05 11:37 AM by longship
No viruses. No spyware. No crashes. No Blue Screen of Death.

So far, viruses have been written for Windows. They won't run on Linux.

Likewise, spyware. Free software has source code. Peer review prevents spyware.

Linux is superbly stable. I keep five Linux machines going 24/7 without reboots for months and months. No problems.

When an application crashes (which happens in all computer environments) it just ends that application. Linux still runs. A crashed application never brings down Linux. I've never seen it happen.

23. Can you give a little free advice?
I am fairly knowledgeable about computers, although don't qualify as a geek, have sufficient HD/external HD space available and dual/multiple boot capability. What distro would you recommend and from whom? I've been wanting to take the linux plunge and would like to make one purchase only-cash reserves are limited. Suggestions? Thanks much, in advance!

34. I'd go with a Debian-based distribution.
Debian-based distributions have far superior package management to the Red Hat based ones.

Ubuntu is Debian based. It has a bootable CD so you can try it first. It's installation CD is great. PM me and I'll stick some CDs in the mail for you.

If you do not like Ubuntu you can switch distributions. The easiest way to do this is to make the /home directory a separate partition.

36. Thanks
I've read enough about it to know that I want to go ahead and do the whole package, leaving just enough space for a small windows and the business program that I have to maintain. rather than a trial. Being limited to a modem/phone connection to the internet, I can't do a big download-I've done 30-40 megabytes but anything over about 50 gets blown off when the ISP kicks me loose and I have to reconnect.
It seems that any distro, with enough goodies to make me happy, is going to set me back somewhere near a hundred bucks so I only want to do it once. I'll drop you a pm.

14. He's already said he's not running again
So no worry about that. He doesn't have a chance with being president. There's too much to use with him. Being a Bush loyalist and croney and then with his families hospital. They made fortunes on abortion's when Frist claims to be a pro-family person and then this ordeal. I hope if he does lie under oath they find out. Noone should get away with that.
