Breaking News on Sludge about Miers will drive RWers NUTS
Edited on Thu Oct-13-05 11:43 AM by npincus
http://www.drudgereport.com/flash4hmn.htm

The DRUDGE REPORT has obtained a copy of sworn testimony given by Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers in 1990 in which she said that she “wouldn’t belong to the Federalist Society” – a conservative and libertarian lawyers’ organization – because it was “politically charged.”

<snip>

The DRUDGE REPORT can now reveal that not only did Harriet Miers testify that she would not join the “politically charged” Federalist Society -- she testified that she had joined a liberal organization – the Democratic Progressive Voters League.

Miers was also asked whether she considered “the NAACP in the category of organizations” that she considered to be “politically charged.”

Her answer: “No, I don’t.”

9. Wants to get fundies so enraged that they threaten shrub
They DO NOT want Miers and they will do ANYTHING to shoot down her nomination. She isn't your typical radical right-wing nut job bible-thumping nazi (like * promised them), so she can't be on the SC.

16. The thing to understand about Drudge...
...is that he only cares about one thing:

More hits on his website.

10. doesn't sound made- up and will be easily proven/ disporven
as he says he's obtained a copy of "sworn testimony" she gave in 1990,
so this transcript will likely be forthcoming in the MSM if there's any truth to it.

2. I have just realized something about the RW'ers and Miers.
They don't like her because her viewpoints aren't PURE enough. Now, how about THEM apples?

4. Why do I get the feeling that we are getting played?
or at least that is what is being attempted.....

Drudge doesn't do liberal "favors" that I have witnessed as of yet!

8. Miers can only work to the Republicans disadvantage
is the conventional wisdom right now. They are forced to trust Bush to appoint someone, and not foul it up. There are a dozen nazi judges on the bench they would be drooling over, who have clear track records and track marks, who they could count on to further the goal of a homegrown taliban. Miers may allow abortion to continue, vote against interment of homosexuals, allow hollywood celebrities to speak freely, and upheld laws that prevent white people from shooting minorities on sight.

12. I don't know......this shit is getting weird, because
What if:

1. Bush did this so that there could be an uproar....withdraws her nomination and names another that is just as bad, if not worse. That would take some steam out of an attempted fillibuster on the NEXT Bush appointee.

2. The Extreme Wing Nut Religious Wrong is feigning being taken down the Miers road kicking and screaming....so that mainstream America will end up feeling that she's not "all that bad"?

3. There's a real civil war going on within the RW; Miers will go down, and then another extreme Nazi will be nominated next? Which takes us back to number one as listed here.....

Since Bush is the one making the nomination, we lose anyway we look at it. That's the saddest part!

I'd love for Bush to get impeached and our nation be saved. That's the only good option for the Left, IMO!

15. Well....
A lot of statements are coming out now trying to placate the religious right by saying "hey, she's one of you". But this is a misunderstanding of this base. It's dishonest. These bible thumpers in the red states, they are not ashamed of their beliefs, and don't want a candidate t to bring a nominee in like a thief in the night.

So, Bush is alienating everyone. Those that want someone other then the church lady,or don't want to trust Bush, or want an honest approach to placing someone of your ilk on the bench.

It's a bad move for the shrub.

7. I don't believe it, but if conservatives do, we've got one son of a Bush
going down.

Nothing Bush can do will take him out with the "Rapture Right" except his being viewed as an unsure christian.

Bush can kill, mame, steal - it matters not, but he best not DARE nominate a "librul feminazi" to the supreme court or the Dobson flock will flee quicker then you can say 2008.

18. hey, don't take out your disdain for Drudge on ME
and that's a civil response in exchange for a childish, insulting one.

This "breaking news" was just discussed at the WH presss briefing- it looks to be true. Keep your head under a rock, if your hatred for Drudge inspires knee-jerk contempt- wait to read it in the NYT.

20. This is bizarre.
Not sure what to make of this. It feels like bait.

Also, remember that Miers was a Dem at this point in her career. There is no reason to believe that these comments reflect her current worldview.
