I have a question
Edited on Thu Oct-13-05 03:17 PM by Tiggeroshii
Does anybody know if there would be any consequences in stepping into a Congressional race knowing you will lose? If you are Democrat living in a district that voted 80% Republican in the last election, would there be any major consequences from just runnig for the hell of it? If you run as a Democrat and you're the only Dem running, wouldn't it be worth it since you have nothing to lose? Just wondering. Cause it seems like you really wouldn't even have to spend a lot of money on it in this case, either, more or less it would be assurance that a Democrat wouldat least run in the district?

1. Depending on where you live, you do have to pay a filing fee..
of a few thousand dollars I believe. I could be wrong on that, though.

2. If you run, be prepared to have every skeleton dragged from your closet
Politics is dirty. If you are seen as even a small threat, they will do everything to make you look bad.

3. I've seen it done before.
Nothing, other than this person embarrassing himself so profoundly that no one would allow themselves to be associated with his candidacy, untoward happened to him.

I think if you run you should go after the win though. Serious candidates have been humping it for a while now. It is very difficult to be a one person band.

4. You would then be privy to the gratitude of your local,...
state, and national party.

There are sometimes pretty good jobs for those who step up and work with the party as candidates, campaign managers, etc.

You'd have to have the support of your local party, though...

and some serious cash (or the ability to raise it).

5. It would be an excellent opportunity to have press conferences and...
...give interviews and tell everyone who will listen how we're tired of reSchmucklicans pissing down our throats and ripping off the middle class.
