DNC: Double Your Contribution
Dear Friend,

Republican control of the White House and Congress has been a disaster -- for our economy, health care, education, the environment, civil rights, our national security and so much more. And polls show that millions of Americans are realizing that we simply cannot afford Republican control of our government any longer.

That's why it's up to us to build a party that can compete and win in all 50 states, to win back control of Congress in the upcoming mid-term elections -- and get us in position to win back the White House in 2008. People are ready for change -- but we have to be ready to fight for their votes and make our case.

We will not concede a single state, a single district, or a single voter to the Republicans. But we have to start right now -- we can't wait until a few months before the election to build a powerful organization to communicate with voters and get them to the polls.

A group of Democrats committed to grassroots fundraising have agreed to match -- dollar-for-dollar -- every contribution received before October 21. This means that all contributions will go twice as far in the effort to elect leaders who have the skill, energy and compassion to rebuild America.

Make your contribution now -- it will have twice the impact:

It's not business as usual for the Democratic Party -- we are changing the way we operate so we can win. That means investing significant resources in the states at every level, from precinct to precinct, setting up field operations and providing professional canvassing and voter-data gathering assistance.

We're putting in place the critical infrastructure needed to win. In several state parties, our staffing efforts have added a Communications Director where none existed before. That means that state parties have the capacity to communicate our message to local voters on issues that are important to them.

We saw the results of this investment when House Republican Leader Tom DeLay, the hub of the GOP's money-for-influence machine, was indicted for money laundering and conspiracy. State parties immediately identified Republican Members of Congress from their state who took money from the DeLay machine, generating coverage on local television and in local papers.

The public push from the state parties put the spotlight on local Republicans complicit in the Republican culture of corruption. Within days, many Republicans were shamed into returning the DeLay money -- and thanks to new press operations in the states, those who didn't will be constantly reminded of it until the voters have the chance to hold them accountable.

We have to build this capacity in every state, and today your contribution goes twice as far towards making it happen:

Governor Dean has committed to you that our party will do things differently. You asked for a truly national party that's both willing and able to fight for every vote.

To do that we need to break the traditional boom-and-bust cycle -- we can't wait until a few months before an election to gear up. We have to build a permanent presence in every state right now to be ready for 2006, 2008 and beyond.

This is an exciting time for our party, and now is the perfect time to be part of it because your contribution will be matched for twice the impact:

Thank you for all that you do.

Tom McMahon
Executive Director
Democratic National Committee

1. This in insulting frankly. Not one word has come to us regarding the War
against Iraq. They avoid it like the plague. The biggest issue that is breaking the back of morale in this country and nothing.

Nothing.

I have been patient as have thousands of others.

I have been a supporter, and because of issues like electronic voting and the illegal invasion of Iraq, it's been difficult to remain a member to say the least.

I have remained a contributor because of Governor Dean primarily, however, yet another request for more money and the constant avoidance of the most vital issues including the War and legitimate voting reform is not cool.

How about asking us for our time and energy and skills to volunteer?

I have asked this as so many others have repeatedly.

3. It is matching funds.
Some people offered to match funds given. That is a good thing. We donated extra because it will double what they get.

I hate to see you guys blaming Dean and the DNC for the foreign policy he did not make. That is a shame.

8. make contributions DIRECTLY to progressive Dems
the problem with donating money to the DNC is that you can't control how it's spent ... the money goes into a big old bucket and is dispersed according to the decisions of people in the DNC ... you might agree with those decisions; you might not ...

but why not ensure that your money is dispensed based on YOUR values ???

Dean and the DNC may not make policy but they have endorsed candidates like Bill Casey in PA who opposes a woman's right to choose ... i don't know about you but i don't want a penny of my contributions going to support that type of barbaric thinking ... and while Iraq policy is not something either Dean or the DNC can control, they will distribute your contributions to Democrats who are backing the war and occupation ... and that's not OK with me either ...

my contributions will be going to progressive Dems; not to the catch all DNC ...

9. I agree,
if your aim is to donate to progressive dems specifically, then it'd by wise to donate to them specifically, via their campaigns.

But, if your aim is to support the dnc, or the dnc under howard dean, or the party, all of our democrats up for election, or to fund and support the 50 state plan, or for any other array of reasons then donate to the dnc, and while they're doubling the money, it's even more a reason to donate to the, that's what this thread is for, It wasn't for donating to progressive dems or anti-iraq war dems specifically.
