McNerney To Challenge Pombo And "Species Extinction Act"
I just knew Jerry McNerney was going to run again, I'm so excited. The kind of dedication it takes to start a campaign as a write-in against one of Delay’s buddies, well those kind of guts don’t just disappear over night. True to form, Jerry announced his candidacy (full text) for Congress today, saying " instead of working for the needs of hardworking families, Richard Pombo is using his position of trust to enrich himself and his cronies. Our nation is now in desperate need of strong and honest leadership that has a positive plan for our future. I’m asking voters to join me so that together we can change the direction of our country… I am running on a platform of Responsible Investing in America. I believe we need to step up to the plate and invest in America just like our parents and grandparents did so that we can pass on to our children and grandchildren a nation that is strong and prosperous.”

This is an important race for two reasons. One, obviously we have to stop Richard Pombo, who was called a “one-man wrecking crew” by Jerry when he blocked the bipartisan Wild Sky Wilderness Bill. Pombo’s Endangered Species Act, that Jerry labeled the “Species Extinction Act”, is another of many Pombo measures on the “right-wing kill list”. Jerry’s expertise in wind energy and passion for the outdoors makes him uniquely qualified to take on the energy challenges the country faces.

Second, and more importantly, Central California needs a strong candidate to bring the voice of the Democratic Party to that region. Jerry promises to speak to the “common needs we all share… protecting Social Security, creating good jobs with living wages, cleaning the dirty air that is causing so many health problems..” Jerry intends to remind his district that the Democratic Party “stands for what it has always stood for – the average hard working families of our country.”

1. Pombo is a
DeLay wannabe and side kick. He has to go. McNerney did pretty well last time. He got on the ballot through a write in campaign during the primaries.

He's in the next district over from the one I live in so I will probably do some walking and calling for him.
