Bush is starting to act Nixonesque
towards the end. People jumping ship.

In his mind, fiction replaces reality.

Grasping at any straw to save him.

His nomination of Meirs is simply his version of the Saturday Night Massacre when Nixon fired Richardson for not firing the independent prosecutor. He can't do that so he figures he will place his #1 crony in a position to rescue his tail if he should need it.

2. Don't see why he can't
Fitzgerald has the same authority as the Nixon prosecutor -- there is no independent prosecutor law like Ken Starr operated under.

In addition, Nixon was facing a Democratic congress, which may allow our current idiot in chief to get away with more.

5. Think about all the parallels between this admin and Nixon's
The only difference is that Nixon didn't actually begin the Vietnam War. Of course, I guess you could argue that the years leading up to shrub's Iraq war were sort of a police state with the no-fly zones and inspectors, etc. He escalates it.

Creates a huge divide in the country.

Of course, this time the anger is not directed at the troops.

VP could be indicted over Plamegate--

Thinks he can do foreign policy. Condi looks like Kissinger.

On and On and On and On

7. I read at Kos that Miers was Card's pick.
Is Card stepping in for Rove? And is he as incompetent as the rest of the gang?

(Sorry, don't have a link, but I'm pretty sure it was in a diary at Kos earlier today.)

isn't he supposed to be overseeing the post-Katrina reconstruction?
WTF was that strange blip on the national radar? Seems Rove might not be up to that task.

10. True, but I don't see this as a source of optimism.
The Nixon debacle was only a minor setback for the GOP. Just a few years later they answered with a two-term extremist president.

Just because it's becoming increasingly transparent that Bush is a goof doesn't mean our country is poised to make a big jump forward. Bush is a symptom, not the disease. So long as conservative ideology has a grip on the national mindset, it doesn't really matter what Bush's poll numbers are. The next guy will be just as bad.

We shouldn't set the bar so low.

basic thing they've been doing all along.

More and more people are on to them, while they're still yelling at everyone, "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtains!"
