1. I don't know. I can't watch her for more than 2 mins!
I admit, I haven't written to the network yet, but I'm thinking about it! She sure is NO asset to them!!!!

2. The Great Mystery
She is so sad, it's pathetic! Highly made up. Horrible voice. Uninteresting subjects. This is what our society has come to. And worse yet, she follows up Keith. He is surrounded by nitwits. Tweety before him, and then her after. Countdown is the only intelligent show on that network.

3. She is OLD. She is very OVERWEIGHT. She is a GOSSIP REPORTER.
Faux liked her so long as she looked 'hot.' Now she is a bit long in the tooth, so they let her go.

But hey, she has SOURCES. So MSNBC picked her up to do what she does best--GOSSIP, crime, and sleaze. They cannot ignore that market, else they will lose their share.

I do not mind her. We need more chunky, older women on TV. They sure look better than most of the chunky, older men who seem to rule the day....

5. I say leave the old gal alone
Fat, thin, old or young. She IS what she IS. Her schtick is anything salacious. She will never be John Foster Dulles. It is what she does...and if MSNBC needs that kind of shit to pull viewers away from FAUX, good for them. Use her, and give her an opportunity to grow. She does seem to be energized in her new job, give her time, and perhaps she will focus her energy. I will not beat up on a middle aged woman trying to make her way in the world, especially when she seems to have seen the light and gone to a more respectable venue.

She no longer wears the vaseline lipstick and we do not see her cleavage. Her hair is not pouffy and she seems calmer and more focused.

I suspect she is TRYING to get past that shit. And if she brings her viewers with her, it is all good...

since when was msnbc that great bar Olbermann? Who gives a shit if she brings Fox viewers to MSNBC - only GE corporate assholes care about that. We aren't making money on her idiot program.

24. By keeping ratings high, she ensures the viability of the channel
The channel that features KO.

Look, what does this woman cover? Crime stories, missing women, tabloid fodder. She is not a political journalist, at least not on MSNBC. She's a video STAR MAGAZINE, is all.

Keith Olbermann used to work for Fox...but no one seems to mind that he took money from the whoremaster. I don't think we should hold this woman to a higher standard than Olbermann.

I say give her a chance, and let her do what she does--missing women, murder victims, the salacious stories of the day. Like it or not, there is a market for it, and the remote is close by if you don't care for that sort of stuff.

so you want to ensure the viability of this channel by encouraging and supporting more tabloid fodder?

GOP asswipes are just as bad for a newschannel as fox news trashmongers. Keith just did sports for them, he didn't trawl through sewers.

32. No one WATCHES him, though
His ratings are in the sewer. They come for KO and Rita. People who tune in early for Rita get KO, and they start tuning in earlier, because his show always has a big finish.

11. That is old in TV land
I personally would be thrilled to turn on the news and see Walter Cronkite and Helen Thomas as co hosts, but in this day and age, you cannot have a small wrinkle, a wattle, a receding hairline, or in the case of females, a big ass, a bit of grey, a sagging bosom...you have to wonder, what are they thinking? Who turns on the NEWS to wank off??? It must be a GOP thing....

In TV news, 40 is old for women, unless they can do ten times what a similarly aged man can do, and kick ass and take names while they are doing it. I personally think it is unfair, stupid, a waste of talent....but apparently it is what dumb Murika likes....

14. I have tried five times to answer this
but I keep getting errors.

I know Barbara Walters well--her father, Lou, was a family friend. I know how old she is, she is closer to eighty than seventy. Everyone in my house who has grey hair cheers when she comes on the TV.

My point--let Rita grow. She could be Helen Thomas in forty or fifty years.

Barbara started out doing cooking and grinning on TODAY. Her big break was when she did a reality bit as a Playboy Bunny. Not quite WMD, that...

People can improve with years, experience, and opportunity. Faux dumped Rita, let us not do the same.

The truth is, forty is OLD in TV land for women. It is infancy for men, though. Rather unfair, that.

I do not get it, and do not subscribe to it, but that is the way it is, nowadays. So I say let Rita give the gossip, cover the salacious crime, and go after the sleaze story--she is energetic, willing, and has a great market share. If it isn't your cuppa, pick up the remote.

I imagine she will remember which crowd dumped her, and which gave her a second shot...

Women's voices can grate in the nerves however I'd rather listen to Rita Cosby than be distracted by thin-voiced blonde ignorant bimbos. Saying Cosby is fat, old, grey is clearly prejudice.

22. and saying she's a gossipy, tabloid wretch is stating the obvious
Edited on Sat Oct-15-05 01:21 PM by thebigidea
that she's unappealing physically and vocally to some (many) people, is just the extra topping on the sundae of disgust.

While concentrating on her looks and stuff is a bit tacky, pretending she's going to blossom into Helen Thomas in a few decades is... is... phew, I have no words for that.

I guess you can defend her uh, "untelegenic" looks and voice - but to go to such lengths strikes me as absurd. She's not the ugly journalistic caterpillar that's going to blossom into a truth-spouting butterfly of ethics and hardhitting news.

26. Who would have thought a "Today Girl" whose job it was to
look cute and talk about cooking and cleaning and flower arranging would blossom into a world class reporter who has interviewed everyone from Nixon to Castro to Clinton? Barbara Walters actually did a huge piece about the life of a Playboy Bunny, and she put on the bunny suit and waited on table--rather trite compared to what she has done since then.

Everyone has to start somewhere, and there's no rule that you cannot change course in life. I still say give her a shot, and if you cannot bear her, change the channel.

"Everyone has to start somewhere, and there's no rule that you cannot change course in life"

yeah, but when you get to Rita's age and have a long track record of shit in your wake, you can somewhat safely make assumptions about the downward trajectory of her career arc as it descends into occasionally hosting retrospective specials on the Olsen Twins.

Thanks for giving me the option of changing the channel. It is a very original suggestion that I will of course pursue in the unlikely event that I ever watch her show.

We should support good journalists with proven track records, not the loathsome deathmerchants that follow them with weird voices that could hypothetically one day become Ed Murrow.

33. Wow, I am stunned by your level of intolerance, frankly
Edited on Sat Oct-15-05 11:31 PM by MADem
Arianna Huffington? David Brock? Who else has seen the light at a late age, and been responsible for vitriolic journalism in the interim?

Or should we just nail everyone who EVER worked for Faux? Keith Olbermann used to pick up his paycheck there, for quite a while.

Should we start banging nails in their coffins too, simply because they didn't get with the program soon enough to suit you? Is there an AGE TEST, like a litmus test, to decide that your party sucks and you want to move over?

That sort of elitism can cost votes, and I sure as hell do not share it. I find it shameful.

I dunno, why don't you try naming them? Because not many others come to mind.

Yeah, I'm the elitist here because I don't like Rita Cosby. The one namedropping about Bawawawa, though...

So am I also intolerant if I didn't like the host of Hard Copy?

How about the Girls Gone Wild videomakers? I know its sleazy, but what's to say that he might not see the light and do a riveting 4 part miniseries on Kafka's relationship with Max Brod?

Might one day E.D. Hill and Steve Doocey form a delightful new wave country-jazz funk band that brilliantly blended genres to create a musicial potpourri that inspired a generation?

Could Bob Saget turn a new leaf and discover the meaning of life based on inscriptions located inside old Corn Flakes boxes?

At what point do we get to evaluate people for their body of work instead of potential brilliance?

Your argument is ridiculous. Rita Cosby is a hack, and thinking her work is trash is hardly "intolerance."

But if I ever run a movie theater or something, I'll be sure to have seperate water fountains for hack teevee "journalists" as a monument to my despicable media bigotry.

36. I just did, Arianna Huffington, David Brock, and how about this guy, too?
David Shuster: http://www.heraldtimesonline.com/stories/2005/10/02/column.1002-SH-A3_CMK35541.sto
You might try reading the post before responding to it.

David Brock runs one of the best web venues for exposing media bias in favor of the GOP, but he is also the same guy who wrote that hatchet job book about ANITA HILL, and was a vicious operative at the WEEKLY STANDARD for eons. He did far more damage to the Democrats than Rita ever did. Arianna Huffington used to be the GOP's biggest cheerleader, involved in all sorts of nefarious goings-on, and now she runs HUFFINGTON POST, a progressive outlet.

David Shuster worked for those Faux whores for years, carried their water, beat their drum for his paycheck, and now he is doing some great reporting for the NBC franchise.

And even the sainted Olbermann made a hefty chunk of money reading sports scores and delivering snarky comments for his Fox masters.

Your display of intolerance is stunning, and not what I consider typical of Democrats, who in my experience, are the first to understand that people can improve and learn from their mistakes. I won't ascribe a motive of sexism or ageism to your assertions (most of the people I noted are around her age, or older), but I find it completely impossible to reconcile your overly negative attitude with your stated political beliefs.

It's fine if you just don't like her STYLE, but to base your dislike on where she came from (and snarkily suggest we should all start cheering for Neil Cavuto), well, you had better apply the same standard to some of the major forces, like Brock and Huffington, in the progressive movement as well.

By your words I know you!

she was too old, too fat, and her face was not perky enough. Guess her eyes were not glazed over sufficiently to please them.

She looks better without the push up brassiere, the insanely teased hair, and the porn star makeup with fire engine red lipstick. She looks HUMAN. I say give her a break, and do not do to her what Faux did....people can grow in a job, we see that all the time.
