Am watching a bio on Rob Lowe. He has been very politically active since he
was a youngster. Wonder if he's ever thought about running for office - like a Congressman or Senator.

Anybody know anything about him and his politics (He is a Democrat.)

that Rob Lowe is a republican. I must have just imagined it, I guess.

14. I read that too, a few years back, around the time West Wing first showed
Thought it was interesting. If he is registered DEM now, perhaps Mr. Sheen had something to do with changing his views? Anybody?

19. I'm sorry, it was no misinterpretation
Could we possibly be confusing Chad Lowe and Rob Lowe? Chad is his brother and IS a Democrat.

Rob Lowe has made repeated snipes to the press about the "paranoid Democrats" on "West Wing".

21. The programs I was watching was definately about Rob. And he definately
campaigned for Dukakis (sp). I would assume saying anything about the Democrats on his show being parinoid - was just that - talking about the characters on the program.

If he campaigned for Kerry as another poster said, he must still be a Democrat. If he was for Arnold - shame on him.

22. The comments he made
Were not in reference to the show. He discussed how his dressing room was broken into and how he thought his phone had been tapped. lol

If he campaigned for Kerry, it may be that he's running up the flagpole to take advantage of whichever side "won".

He definitely campaigned for Arnie.

if you catch my drift.

4. He should NOT RUN!!!!!!!!!
That scandal was pretty reprehensible for its time. He was ostracized, totally, in the aftermath and unable to find work for years--his appeal went from high to negative numbers. He only started to come back when he did that Stephen King made for TV movie, and people were shocked at what a good job he did in the part.

Now he is older, wiser, his sins forgiven and he is back at acting, but a run for office is not a good idea, in my opinion....he can do great things as a supporter, and that is where his focus should remain.

5. Remind me.
Was the girl in the tape under age?

Because THAT would not go over well in politics.

7. Yes, one of the TWO were underage
and that was not his first or only foray into making homemade sex tapes, the dork! Video cameras were all the rage back then, huge and heavy as they were:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Rob_Lowe

Lowe gained notoriety in 1988 after a video of him having sex with two women, one of whom was underage, became public. He had met the women at a bar while in Atlanta attending the 1988 Democratic National Convention, and later claimed that he didn't know one was underage, and that it was reasonable to assume that someone in a bar was of legal age. The video that was widely circulated was not the one with the underage girl and her lesbian hairdresser girlfriend but that of a threesome with a model called "Jennifer", a young friend called "Justin Morris" and the actor himself. The home video was shot in a hotel room in Paris. Lowe was sentenced to twenty hours of community service.

6. He's a war-loving turncoat
He jumped parties and ran to Bush's side. If he's calling himself a Democrat now it's because he saw the tide turning. I put him in the turncoat bouquet, along with Ron Silver and Dennis Miller.

8. Have not heard of that. He stumped for Ducakis and was a really active
Democrat. If he has gone over to the dark side, that is too bad.

Haven't watched him lately. I frankly liked both him and Al Franken a lot better when they were just funny and not political.

Of course, this was right before his crappy series as an "independent" politico debuted... very handy.

Lowe is a democrat and campaigned for Kerry.

There was some consternation on this board and other internet sites because of a joke he made on a talk show (Oprah, I think). He said something like, "if you know anything about my past, you know that I like bush." But, of course, he was referring to his sex scandal, when the media got a hold of a tape of him having sex with two young women (one under 18, although he claims not to have known that) in a hotel room at a Democratic convention in Atlanta.

edited because I had the date wrong

18. He said quite clearly that he was in favor of Bush AND the war
He was on UK radio and went on and on about the "rightness of the war".

He may be talking out of two sides of his mouth, but he's NOT a liberal.

16. He campaigned for Ahnold in the CA recall. At best, politically naive to
do so:

Rob Lowe volunteers for Arnold Schwarzenegger's gubernatorial campaign
an Associated Press report 8/18/03

BURBANK, Calif. - Actor Rob Lowe, who played a White House aid on television, has joined real-life politics by volunteering for Arnold Schwarzenegger's gubernatorial campaign.

Lowe, a longtime Democrat, said he believes the action-star has injected new energy into California politics.

Schwarzenegger is, "motivating and energizing people in this state that haven't been interested in politics in many, many years," Lowe said in a taped interview with the syndicated TV entertainment newsmagazine show "Extra", slated to air Monday.

Despite their party differences, Lowe said he wanted to help the Republican candidate unseat Gov. Gray Davis in the Oct. 7 recall election because Schwarzenegger will "put the people above partisan politics." http://www.28news.com/entertainment/stories/0308/030818lowe.shtml
