Judy Can’t Recall?
I find this hard to fathom…

Notes by the New York Times’ Judith Miller that were turned over in a criminal investigation contain the name of a covert CIA officer, but the reporter has told prosecutors she cannot recall who disclosed the name, the newspaper reported Saturday.

The prosecutor in the case asked Miller in recent days to explain how Valerie Plame — misspelled in those notes as “Valerie Flame” — appeared in the same notebook the reporter used in interviewing her confidential source, Vice President Dick Cheney’s chief of staff, according to the Times.

In response to questioning by Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald, Miller replied that she “didn’t think” she heard Plame’s name from Cheney’s aide, I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby.

2. Bullshit - Does she think she will get away with that? How in the
hell if someone in her position was given such a name could she ever forget how she got the name?

Unbelievable!

3. Especially after having 85 days to try to remember. "I can't
recall" is premptive strike on a perjury charge, nothing more.

7. that is why she is such an "ace" reporter that can't remember names
Edited on Sat Oct-15-05 04:51 PM by IChing
or facts. She is a propagandist reporter that has conveniently manufactured stories that lead us to war. I guess that has to do why the times put her on permanent leave status realizing that she was a plant.

21. Yes! and recall that Rove, who is rumored to have a near photographic
memory, is suddenly claiming forgetfulness too! Jeez! These people have the kinds of jobs they have BECAUSE they have unusually good memories. I once had a friend who was a reporter, and he remembered EVERYTHING!

6. Such a convenient case of amnesia. She's so full of it, I'm surprised she
thought she could get away with spewing this tripe publicly.

8. You know, I've been wondering why Bolton went to meet Judy
while she was still in prison:

"Bolton's visit raised some eyebrows in Washington,” the Post said. “A vocal defender of administration claims in 2003 that Iraq was seeking weapons of mass destruction, he could have had access to a State Department memo, parts of which were classified, that detailed Wilson's trip to Niger to determine whether Iraq was seeking uranium there and identified his wife as a covert CIA operative. Who saw or discussed the memo has been a central question for Fitzgerald.

Then Judy has "I got it wrong" and "I don't recall" moments. I don't know why but for some reason I suspect we are seeing the results of that meeting...

15. She now claims she learned the "Flame" name from a 2nd source
But, Libby told Miller that Wilson's wife worked for the CIA's WMD unit. Scooter committed a felony there, because that information was classified, and he violated the Espionage Act. He also committed perjury by failing in his earlier testimony to disclose his June 23 meeting with Miller. Game over for Scooter.

This from the main NYT narrative:http://www.nytimes.com/2005/10/16/national/16leak.html?hp&ex=1129435200&en=ae9961705f60a5d9&ei=5094&partner=homepage

'A Good-Faith Source'

On June 23, 2003, Ms. Miller visited Mr. Libby at the Old Executive Office Building in Washington. Mr. Libby was the vice president's top aide and had played an important role in shaping the argument for going to war in Iraq. He was "a good-faith source who was usually straight with me," Ms. Miller said in an interview.
Her assignment was to write an article about the failure to find unconventional weapons in Iraq. She said Mr. Libby wanted to talk about a diplomat's fact-finding trip in 2002 to the African nation of Niger to determine whether Iraq sought uranium there. The diplomat was Mr. Wilson, and his wife worked for the C.I.A.
Mr. Wilson had already become known among Washington insiders as a fierce Bush critic. He would go public the next month, accusing the White House in an opinion article in The Times of twisting intelligence to exaggerate the Iraqi threat.

But Mr. Libby was already defending Vice President Dick Cheney, saying his boss knew nothing about Mr. Wilson or his findings. Ms. Miller said her notes leave open the possibility that Mr. Libby told her Mr. Wilson's wife might work at the agency.
On July 8, two days after Mr. Wilson's article appeared in The Times, the reporter and her source met again, for breakfast at the St. Regis Hotel, near the White House.

The notebook Ms. Miller used that day includes the reference to "Valerie Flame." But she said the name did not appear in the same portion of her notebook as the interview notes from Mr. Libby.
During the breakfast, Mr. Libby provided a detail about Ms. Wilson, saying that she worked in a C.I.A. unit known as Winpac; the name stands for weapons intelligence, nonproliferation and arms control.
Ms. Miller said she understood this to mean that Ms. Wilson was an analyst rather than an undercover operative.

Ms. Miller returned to the subject on July 12 in a phone call with Mr. Libby. Another variant on Valerie Wilson's name - "Victoria Wilson" - appears in the notes of that call. Ms. Miller had by then called other sources about Mr. Wilson's wife. In an interview, she would not discuss her sources.

Two days later, on July 14, Robert D. Novak, the syndicated columnist, wrote that Mr. Wilson's wife had suggested sending him to Niger, citing "two administration sources." He went on to say, without attributing the information, that Mr. Wilson's wife, "Valerie Plame, is an agency operative on weapons of mass destruction."

18. Isn't it interesting
that JM uses the name "Flame" for Wilson's wife. That definitely seems like a "smoking gun," as she knew that that would be the flash point for what looks like an intentional PR snuff job.
The troublesome thing to me is that the NYT sent her, knowing her perspective and bias on WMD's to gather info about how the false info about WMD's was getting disseminated. That doesn't seem like the way to get a news story to me.

22. My take on that was that she was taken off those stories but was
acting like a rogue reporter utilizing her own cultivated sources and pursuing whatever she damn well pleased. She was forbidden to write about it because the editor had taken her off due to her questionable reputation with the readership.

The MSM is a disgrace.

Lardball, Chris Matthews is depressed today.

Not enough Dead Iraqis or US Troops in today's election to make Matthews happy.

Let's keep up the scandal watch.

-Limbaugh targeted by a Lib D.A. in Palm Beach County.
-Delay targeted by a Lib D.A. in Texas.
-Frist investigated by the SEC after Libs complain about his stocks.
-Rove, Libby, etc. dealing with the sludge of Joe Wilson and Chuck Schumer via a Special Prosecutor.

It's all a DISGRACE. The MSM can not be trusted. Lib Prosecutors can not be trusted.

23. Peter Gabriel "I Don't Remember"
I Don't Remember

I got no means to show identification
I got no papers show you what I am
You'll have to take me just the way that you find me
What's gone is gone and I do not give a damn
Empty stomach, empty head
I got empty heart and empty bed
I don't remember
I don't remember

I don't remember, I don't recall
I got no memory of anything at all
I don't remember, I don't recall
I got no memory of anything
-anything at all

Strange is your language and I have no decoder
Why don't you make your inentions clear
With eyes to the sun and your mouth to the soda
Saying, "Tell me the truth, you got nothing to fear
Stop staring at me like a bird of prey
I'm all mixed up, I got nothing to say
I don't remember
I don't remember

I don't remember, I don't recall
I got no memory of anything at all
I don't remember, I don't recall
I got no memory of anything
Anything at all

I don't remember, I don't recall
I got no memory of anything at all
I don't remember, I don't recall
i got no memory of anything
absolutely anything at all
I don't remember
